The most amusing thing I find about all those smiling idiots stood outside a store in Oxford Street at stupid o'clock in the morning, besides the fake ears and pink faces, is the fact that they went into a store, after paying a subscription per month, to BUY and expansion.
The last nine (all of them) for us have been free, downloadable from the comfort of our own homes, and packed with shiny goodness.
I know where I'd rather be.
In closing I have the following statement prepared :

Verone for 2012?
(Sadly, this is how most MMOGs on the market work. You pay for the game (client), you pay to play the game (subscription) and you pay to continue playing the game (expansion). Ergo, I have come to a conclusion - people are insane.)

Do not confuse garden-variety stupidity with exquisite insanity, please. Also : "hmm, took you THAT long to figure it out, eh?"

Not to mention the "bully people, get their ingame cash, use it to pay for subscription" option, right ?

Na. I realized it a long time ago. I just felt that now was a good time to share this wonderful insight with the Internet community.

The Night-elf bird with the glasses was on BBC Breakfast this morning in her full kit....why would you want to open yourself up to such ridicule?
Mind you, could be worse. I never want to be in a situation where IÆm in a queue with a bunch of EVE players going for the authentic pod pilot look, all naked and gooey looking

IMO, you wouldnt have to go that far, showing up bald with black make-up and the adequate wardrobe would be more than enough to obtain ridicule from todays society!
And for those going "lol paying again" to be brutally honest you can't compare a WoW Expansion with an EVE expansion.
WoW expansion add a lot more physically, I mean this one adds an entire region. No, not empty space.. its mapped. Takes effort to map a whole new region that big ya know, not to mention the 10,000 odd quests they've no doubt stuffed onto it.
EVE expansions generally exist of a new splash screen, a new ship maybe and a bit of number tweaking for balance.
Something like Ambulation, as an expansion, would be what you'd pay for. But since CCP are lovely and I pay twice as much for EVE per month as I do for WoW per month, I'd assume we'll get ambulation for free.

At about the 37 second mark on that video someone walks past behind in a cow costume...
Now, I don't know WoW but is it possible to play a bovine creature of your choice?

I do not really miss WoW, but I do think that online games have done leaps and bounds for crossing borders that have not been crossed before.
I remember having a pen pal in elementary school somewhere in Europe. Now all we have to do is log onto the game and we have contact with so many parts of the world. This is one of the primary reasons I sit in OOPE more so then others. I like hearing things from different points of view. WoW does this on a level that more people are able to participate comfortably, I can not knock them for that.

Smart people pre-order at their favourite webshop and have it ready to play when they get home. Yep, that's what I did. And since someone was at home it is already installed too. I suspect servers to be unstable till at least monday however though >_> Good thing there is QR to keep me entertained \o/
@ Verone: It is not really comparable to EVE expansions. It is 10 more levels + maps + endgame content + battlegrounds + other stuff. WoW has regular content patches as well, which compare better to EVE expansions and those are free, although they deliver less content per patch than an EVE expansion. Last time I compaired the EVE subscription fee is slightly higher than that of WoW so in the end buying one expansion every 2 year or paying an EVE subscription evens out pretty well.

I actually laughed while watching the video. I knwo the game is addictive - but it's not that great really - I played for what, 6 months? Even then I was pushing it for finding stuff to do.
I laughed at all the bad costumes - if you're gonna cosplay your BElf Hunter, at least try hard to LOOK the part. I haven't laughed so much in a while.

BBS News this morning was classic. They had some girl dressed as a nightelf, who'd been quqing for WoW expansion all night; a normal-looking guy; and a bloke from PC Gamer.
Anyway, the interviewer just did this...
BT: So, I've been told you're not human. NE: That's right. BT: So, what are you? NE: I'm a Nightelf BT: Right..... ok..... why?!

I disagree, it irritated me that I had to pay for expansions in WoW. CCP has got a much better business model. And compare the player base. You'd think that charging for EvE expansions would makes sense because there are far fewer people playing yet it doesn't happen.
I respect and applaud the decisions that CCP have made regarding their marketing and services.

I agree, I just wish that one day they'll release something that can actually be called an expansion, instead of "content patch". Although yeah, the cosplay and that is pretty sad, I certainly hope none of the people deriding them have been to fanfest, since in the grand scheme of things putting on some face paint and standing in line for a game is a lot less sad then paying thousands of dollars to go to a foreign country to hang out with a hundred of the kind of men who pay thousands of dollars to attend internet conventions.
