My girlfriend and I both play Eve on two different PC's through the same router, and after playing Quantum Rise together last night for a few hours we discovered this morning that she could not access the server while I could log in with no problems at all.
After trying the usual suspects for a an hour or so I could find no obvious problems with the network its self, and could only think it was a problem with the client that had surfaced somehow upon the computers reboot this morning. We uninstalled her client and redownloaded the latest build on her machine, reinstalled the client and hit the same problem. Server status unknown and a login error stating we could not connect to the Eve server.
I continued to have full access to Eve through the router, while various attempts to connect to the Eve server through various network settings for my girlfriends PC resulted in no success. Reinstalling the latest build did not help, and I had run out of solutions untill she told me that her PC had installed the latest Vista updates before shutting down for the night last night.
This is the obvious culprit for it is all that has to my knowledge changed since quitting Eve last night and trying to log in this afternoon.
We both run Windows Vista Home Edition, and route to the internet through a D-Link Router. I understand that the D-Link is something of a bogey man with regards to Eve Online but I am fairly confident that the router is not the issue this time, not least because it worked fine last night for both of us and still works fine for myself today.
As this is the first time I have had problems with Windows Update affecting my access to Eve I am unsure as to how to proceed, and would welcome any assistance. As expected the Microsoft knowledge base and Update help page is at first glance devoid of information easilly accessible to help me rectify this issue.
I also wonder, from viewing these forums, how many other players that cannot connect to the server despite having an internet connection are suffering from an automatic update conflict, and think it is a Quantum Rising issue. If the case is that there is a serious conflict, and it is affecting many players without them realising the source, then a speedy resolution made aware to the playerbase would be of great interest to all relevant parties.
