Just a quick question, why is the database on the Eve site so outof date and basically wrong?
Surely as the initial point of contact for players it should be kept as up to date and correct as possible.
Fan based tools (such as Evemon and EFT) manage to stay current and update very quickly.

Yes. Item database always lags behind cahnges by a decent amount of time. The in-game database is best to use until such a time that the online db can be updated. ------------- Stop whining.

I think it's because it can't be updated automatically at the moment, and it takes time and computer resources to do it when they do want to update it. They are going to be releasing a new version of it included in their EVE wiki I believe, so the problem of it being out of date should be solved whenever that wiki appears.
Should, of course, being the operative word.

I appreciate it takes resources but I am not talking about a LITTLE out of date, Evemon updated itself with data on the Orca and the new skills this morning. The item database still denies the existence of HICs! This is somewhat strange for the official (and presumably, authorative) source of data.

The EVElopedia (official EVE wiki) should fix this.

Last report I got, was that It's very soon, and as was mentioned at Fanfest, It could be seeing a beta release somewhere in the next couple of weeks. But that is a date subject to change, depending on bugs and so forth. We won't open up access until we are happy with it and that it's ready for the public.

There is a whole team of volunteers working on the EVElopedia and most likely people from CCP too.

The YARR team are a group of volunteers who administrate the EVElopedia. It is our goal to support the community in making the EVElopedia an up to date, useful and easy to use resource. We do this by monitoring new content added to the EVElopedia, finding and reporting bugs to CCP and adding new official content such as Dev blogs and patch notes. The Yulai Archives & Record Repository Team looks for new volunteers that are enthusiastic about eve and have a wide knowledge of EVE online. Good language skills, Mediawiki experience and document presentation skills are also important. If you have these skills and wish to help out the EVE community then we look forward to receiving your application

Omg! After at least three minutes of general discomfort, fiddling with controls, and trying to parse a landscape of greenish globs of varying degrees of focus, I realized I was in the fishtank!

I find you lack of Dev Blogs knowledge disturbing...
Originally by: CCP Fear The wiki won't be just a wiki, it will contain something special, which most of you have wanted for quite some time, or more to a point, an up to date one. There have been various complaints about the Item database not being up to date; this is mostly due to the process of updating it being a hard and difficult process (who would have thought we would have more ships and items!). But we made it a requirement that our Item DB could be easily exported from our internal servers, and using a custom made macro we have been able to insert all items into the EVElopedia. It will look similar to the website DB as it looks now, but youÆll notice that there are some minor changes, mostly aesthetic ones. One good thing about the macro is that we can update it at any given time. So on a patch day we can export it from the server, use the macro to update the wiki and voila, an up to date Item Database, on patch day!
