this nerf gives me an excuse to train something different,i am totally missile dependent at the moment so could be interesting, what is the better at the moment amarr or gallente, i like the look of the absolution but it would probably take 6 months to train and then tier 3 will be out. |

Go from caldari, to khanid ships, to amarr.
It's a smooth and rather CCP planned direction. |

The Sherriff's good advice will give you the fastest 'return' on your train time.... ...but bear in mind that if you do choose to cross train you are eventually going to want to train up gunnery skills too as every other race uses them and even Caldari have excellent long range gunships.
Also, cross training a second race is feasible but going for a third or fourth will add a lot of train time which will significantly delay you from becoming fully competent in any one race.
I started out training all four races but have recently decided to concentrate on just two of them for the time being.
So, choose your second race carefully.
Amarr (via Khanid) is your most viable option but if you prefer drones and close range combat then Gallente might actually be what you are after.
Obviously, it's hard to know what combat style you prefer until you have trained a little bit of everything. However, you can still get a pretty good idea of the racial differences from just talking to people, browsing ship setups and (ofc) from PvP itself.

Don't forget the Caldari rail ships, either. If you train for Gallente weapons you'll be able to use them effectively. |

Edited by: Rodj Blake on 14/11/2008 13:41:29 If you switch your training plan every time there's a nerf, you'll simply end up being mediocre at everything.
Give it a few weeks and I'm sure see some ingenious new setups and tactics for Caldari ships which use the recent changes to their advantage.
Or, you could look at the Caldari railboats. |

That's the route I took, and I've found it very rewarding. |

Yeah, other way works even faster as you're bound to try out khanid ships as amarr.
Those missiles do suck you in after years of pewpew |

Maybe I'm biased because I love Gallente, but a lot of ships you can already fly use hybrid weapons, so that would be my chosen direction. |

This can work alright, but you'll still be stuck with missiles for some time. You can also consider training for minmatar because of their decent reliance on missiles, or gallente if you've got some vaguely okay gunnery skills. Amarr is probably the easiest transition with Khanid, but you'll be waiting for a few weeks/months to train up to their t2 stuff to use it |

Minmatar and Caldari is a good combination. Especially if you want to run agents but keep your standings balanced. Also the Minmatar ships are more versatile and your missile skills remain valuable. |

I say Gallente.
The returns aren't as immediate as if you go the Amarr/Khanid route, but you will end up getting double value for your training time. As you skills up your hybrids to fit the Gallente ships, you also gain the ability to fit the Caldari ships you already have access to, but which you haven't been able to use properly. |

Here is an easier solution than cross training for another race especially as turrets take scads of sp to get them to be a viable choice.
Train up drones and target painters. Bam your raven is now teh pwn again in level 4 missions if not even moar so.

assuming you're shield/missile specced, why not minmatar? they also use shield ships and missiles as part their damage
though really, your best bet imho is ECM/rail specializations since both of those are valid combat systems. --
