Hi,
Planning on getting my miner geek character into a BS soon and was wondering if the Megathron is really worth the extra cost over a Dominix? The alt in question has high drone skills but generally poor combat skills (she's a miner  ) which is what makes the Dominix appeal. Ideally I'd like her to be able to handle npc spawns in 0.1 and shallow 0.0 space.
So, should I hold out and get a Mega or just go for the Domi?

The best advice i could give, is to wait until you see what changes they will be making to drones.

if u can afford it and have escort, the dom
15 harvies and 6 miner 2s.. hmmmmmm

I'd go dominix all the way. You can armor tank it and with the huge drone bay you can even take on NPC BS spawns. I've been doing it for a while and it's perfect for 0.0 solo mining.
A heavy BS spawn is impossible to take on offcourse, but I have taken on every BS up to 1M with small cruiser and frigate cover.
I can control 12 drones, 13th is coming up... They better not NERF my dronez :-)
Anyway, the mega will give you an extra mining laser but has much less offense than the dom while mining. Use a mega for combat, dominix for mining...

Well the dominix is the best mining ship ingame now so i say dominix with 6 miner II and 15 harvesters

how can you control 15 drones ? 
I only find skills to control 10 drones max

gallente bs skill gives you one extra drone per skill lvl as the bonus in the dom

The Dominix now gives you control over +1 drone per Gallente Battleship Skill level. So now you can use up to 15 drones with a Domi at the same time. But only with this ship, no other has this bonus. |

Seems like CCP is on some kind of nerfing cruisade, may want to wait until the drones patch arrives.

Also there are rumblings of more drones coming out. All we have is basic mining drones, elites and harverstors, there should be many more kinds in the future.
The key to using harvies in deep space is be within 1km of the roid, have them all selected and you can scoop instntly as npc spawns. Also you can shield tank with a mwd, and roid scanner, and have a couple stabs, and youre fine.
I use the Domi for mining now, use a scorp/raven for pvp/npc, dont see much use in the Megathron at the moment...

Just bought me a megathron yesterday. Going to go mining with my 7 lasers. Was making about 7 mil an hour with 4 lasers on a thorax. This will be almost double that. I can help guarding too now that I have some extra HP. More money from the bounty.
Harvies are useless in 0.0 Not worth the effort/risk of losing them. And I can still use 9 drones without excessive training time.
