CCP has to be the most sarcastic and ironic organization in existance. Either that or they just speak in a really strange order in which it can be percieved to be ironic or sarcastic :). |

True, but certificates still just don't efficiently do their job.
To be effective there should be both Elite Armor Tanking (requiring those skills that make you a perfected ARMOR TANKER) and a skill encompassing general tanking ability. Currently, Certs are too broad to be effective, making decently skilled, veteran players look quite inept.

Again, I'm an elite Armour tanker, and believe me, I use my shield. the bigger it is, the better. The better resistances it has, the better. The less likely dmg is to leak through to the armour early, the better.
Having a strong and lasting shield, without mods for shield tanking, means I have that much more time before I have to engage my armour tank.
So, those LOLing at shield tank skills for the ELITE armour tanking certificate, I WTFBBQFISHSTICKS at you.

As said multiple times above, to be a basic or "standard" armor tanker you don't need your shield, but once you step up to become a more proficient one, you will want to use the buffer that is shield. And as said, the bigger and harder, the better (wow, now that can really be misunderstood ).
Thus the elite armor certs require and awesome shield buffer. |
