I understand that it is possible to run some, but not all, level 2 missions in a Rifter. I'm wondering if stepping up to a Jaguar will let me handle anything that a level 2 agent throws at me. If so, how about level 3s?
I understand that there is probably a ceiling to mission running in smaller ships. I'm just not really interested in flying bigger ships and would like to have a realistic idea of where the ceiling is going to be.

Im with you on this as I prefer the smaller ships. I have heard you can do a lot with a jaguar, and I know a guy that does lvl 3 missions in his Jag.
Right now I had to pick up a stabber to run lvl 2 missions because my rifter was just getting tore up too easy. |

I have been able to run most of the level 2s in my wolf with very little problems. There have been some though that were overwhelming, but i can probably attribute that to my loadout and some improper target prioritizing.

Edited by: Gartel Reiman on 17/11/2008 18:03:18 I ran level 3 missions in a Retribution when I was probably only a few months old. I can't comment on how it would compare to an equivalently-skilled battlecruiser, but I do know I was happy with the performance and had no real problems with either tanking or damage output. I don't see why you couldn't run level 3s in a Jaguar (though the Wolf is a little gankier and would probably be quicker overall).
Edit: And as for the ceiling, I tried a level 4 missions (Gone Berserk) in my Retri a little while back to see how it panned out. Tanking turned out to not be a problem at all, as the bigger ships couldn't hit me (taking care not to approach them directly, of course). However, damage became a big issue - I had to go and get Conflag crystals to break the tanks of the 1m bounty rats, since they simply would not go down to multifrequency. Even with the conflag, it took a good 5-10 minutes to take each one down (burning out several crystals each time...). The 500k bounty BSes weren't that tough though, and went down in about a minute each.
So yeah, you can run level 4s in an AF, but it's really really painful... |

Yes it is possible. You have T2 resists so you can tank more and the damage output is compares to a Cruiser for PvE. Just be smart about the spawns and what you tag. I personally do L2's in a Harpy without much trouble and it is much more fun then using a cruiser, granted it does take a bit longer. |

An experienced player can do well with an AF in missions, but a new player may not be able to handle them.
If you have both experience with the missions and fairly decent SPs spec'd for the ship you shouldn't have much trouble. |

Edited by: Mara Rinn on 18/11/2008 05:33:35 As an unskilled player, I did all the L3 combat missions available from Republic Fleet & Republic Security Services agents in a Caracal. I don't see that you'd have any trouble with an AF or HAC.
I put away the finally put away the Caracal once I was able to accept level 4 missions. One of my friends is training to fly a HAC, and we're looking forward to seeing just what that beast can do in level 4 combat missions.

As has been alluded to earlier, it all depends on what you are in it for, the fun of it or the money.
If you really know what you are doing and are looking for a challenge, you can often use a smaller than normal ship to do something with. I like to rat in a rookie ship sometimes or mine in .4 space with a Tormentor.
The thing is if you are in it for the money - you're taking a lot longer to do something than you have to - which means you're making less money than you might.
Thus, if I'm not just messing around, I'll use a ship more appropriate to the task so I can get it done and move on but if I am looking for a bit of a challenge, I'll take some ship that's not really suited to the task and see what I can do with it.

I think the Jaguar is the right choice for mission running in the Minmatar AS.
With the range bonus and some good guns+mods, you should be able to stay safe with range from most hostiles. When the mission makes you warp into a pack of enemies, any AS should offer enough tank and speed to step a bit off from the enemies and stay safe further from them.
Be very careful to what you fit in your Jaguar, it's the main key to successful AS in missions. Use the right resistances and the right ammo (see damage types and ranges of the projectile ammo).
And then, know your ship, be careful at how you fly, not breaking your own tracking with crazy orbits (when you use artillery). For long range, the keep at range command should be good.
You'll see that with more skills, AS can do quite anything, I can run serpentis level 4 missions in an Enyo, tank lvl 4 angels in a vengeance or retribution. |

I don't know why, but I'm a fan of the smaller ships also. Plus always remembering the Cardinal rule of EVE, don't fly what you can't afford to lose. |
