Does Eve function using SLI configuration with multiple video cards? The recent fanfest video 'On the cutting edge' indicated that there is some shortcomings with Eve and SLI under windowed mode.
If so, is there any way around these shortcomings? Or does it function properly with multiple video cards that have not been bridged by SLI?

Edited by: Riga Mortiss on 18/11/2008 17:17:42 I run multiple Eve clients with Premium graphics with my SLI setup. So far I've not seen anything bad, and MUCH pretty goodness. Even Fleet Ops with effects on seem to pose few if any issues.
P.S. if you have multiple vid cards that have not been bridged you're effectively using only ONE card at a time. Rather defeats the purpose of having SLI in the first place..

I'm currently setting up a system with dual 8800 GTS cards, 8gb RAM, 500gb SATA RAID, specifically to run Eve. I watched the video and one of the people in the audience asked the panelists about Eve and SLI. By their response I got the impression there were problems there.
If not... great! I'll get the system assembled and enjoy Eve at 100+ FPS across multiple clients.
As for using non-bridged cards I would have been running 1 monitor per card just as in the old days (currently 2x 24" HD).

With that said, Eve takes ineffective use of SLI. It's not optimized for load balancing multi-GPU setups like Farcry 2 or Fallout 3 are for example.
The load balancing and trafic over the SLI bridge sets around 20-35% tops on Eve vs. 80-90% in Farcry or Call of Duty.
Interesting thing is, a single Eve client will hit one of the GTX280's pretty hard, and nearly leave the 2nd one alone. Very little heat generated or GPU usage on the 2nd in the SLI chain. That leads me to believe that there is not any game-level SLI usage going on, it's done at the driver level. And very little at that.
FYI; System Specs: 2x GTX280's (1gb each, 675mhz clock) Intel Quad Core Q9300 @ 3.5ghz nVidia 790i Motherboard 8gb DDR3 @ 1.3ghz |

I've got some issues, but am too lazy to check for solutions
2x 8800GT
Some stations will slow that client to a crawl, and the brown clouds in some missions also cause slowdowns.
Run two windowed clients at 1280*1024 usually. |

I'm running 2 512mb cards in my laptop with everything maxed out with forced AA and anisotropic filtering. EVE runs and looks really really good |

I've seen a pair of GF cards in SLI handle a trimonitor array very well for EVE. |

3 x 9800GX2's 8x8x8 running 1280x1024 premium windowed clients on 6 screens. Easy Peasy. Performance is not an issue so never botherd to SLI 'em but you must liquid cool or your case will melt a hole to the earths core. |

But I do agree with an earlier poster, there are balancing issues with SLI and EVE ====================

Well, since Eve does not support native multi monitor support I'll just give it a try two ways.
I'll go with SLI, with 1 monitor per card, and see how it performs. And then I'll try them unbridged and see which setup works best.
Or, if I really want to throw some money at it get two more 24" HDs and run a quad monitor setup. Too bad with that, tho, I won't be able to see my TV without mounting it from the ceiling... which won't work, the stupid thing is huge.

They clearly stated SLI and windowed WILL NOT function..
However, they are/did release a patch to have SLI 'work' in full Screen. --------- http://eve-files.com/dl/178903 --------- [NMARE] Nightmare Inc. CODE Code Red Alliance |
