I would like your input. I'm going insane over meeting deadlines for school work, grad school applications, papers, and thesis reports. How can I do all of this without going insane? What has worked best for you?

I will not make known my preffered cure for what you are going through. It worked for me but I would not recommend it for others
On another serious note. Do not participate in to many extra curricular activities till the brunt of the work is completed. Once you get out of school the same things happen just in forms other then homework, exams, and theses. Getting amped up on EVE may not be the best form of relaxation. Exercise in the form of cardiovascular training combined with something like yoga may be of benefit.

Quick piece of advice.
After your first job, no one gives a damn about your grades or where you went to school; just that whatever you first job was, you did it well.

- Start working on your projects/assignments/whatever as soon as they're available, don't think "I still got plenty of time to get that done", or you'll end up with an ever-increasing stack of coursework. Remember, when you're given a deadline on a paper/project, you're expected to continuously spend a moderate amount of time on it, not ignore it until the last few days then rush to get it done. The sooner you get work done, the sooner you can focus on other tasks.
- Prioritize. Good grades are important, but so is not flunking your classes. As someone already said, your grades won't be as relevant once you've had a job or two, so focus on the classes you're having more trouble on. Once you're sure you've passed (or are going to pass) at everything, then focus on improving your grades. (or just sit back and relax )
- Analyze each classes' evaluation method. On some cases you can get approval at a class without spending that much time on it. For example, on my theory of computation class, the evaluation consists of 4 exams (out of which the best 3 count) and 2 assignments, though due to the weight of the exams, I have already passed it by acing the first 2 exams, leaving free time for other classes.
- It will greatly depend on the course and university you're on, but some theoretical classes just aren't worth attending to. (ie: you can absorb the concepts faster by doing your own studying on the subject) This can result in a large amount of time being freed up on your schedule. (for example, my week has 22.5 hours of classes to attend to, but I'm only going to 6 of those, mainly lab/practical classes)
Above all, you need to throw lots of time/effort into it. University degrees aren't (generally) meant to be easy: if they were, everybody would have one.

Except he's applying to grad school, which seems to indicate he cares more about his subject than his job prospects anyway. Otherwise he'd just graduate with a bachelors. Either that or he's insane. Knowing a few phd students, I would guess it's a little of both. |

Do as much as you can do (or are willing to do) and stop giving a damn about the rest. PRIORITIZE. Assign each a value of "time needed for (proper) completion" and "amount of trouble I'd be in if not done (right)", and schedule the order you will complete them in. If at any one time it looks like it's going to take much longer as planned, reprioritize. Learn to do stuff faster. Give it just enough attention to do it, not your full attention, unless you *really* care (but, meh, why should you?) If all else fails, "cheat". Get somebody else to do parts of the stuff, do substandard work (just enough for a passing grade), etc.
Seriously, slacking off is hard work

Do what I did. Don't even think about it until the night before the deadline, at which point you've only done 20% of the whole project. Then start thinking about it.
Or not.

On the (rare) occasions I find myself over-committed, I just start cutting obligations off the bottom.
Also an efficient work strategy. Procrastination and gossiping at the water cooler are not efficient - they waste time. Staying up all night the day or two before the deadline is not efficient - working while extremely fatigued results in lower quality work. |

I had 9 classes last semester, each class had like 3-4 hours per week (i didn't attend all of them, it was impossible, i had classes from 1pm to 7pm all days but Wednesdays, and on Thursdays I had classes from 1pm to 8pm), out of those classes, 8 of them had projects which required me to go pretty much every single day to college @ 8-9am -> me and my colleagues spent the mornings working on the projects. Between classes and project-related work, i'd arrive home at around 7.30-8.30pm which would still grant me some time for studying and be with my girlfriend. There were a few days in which i arrived home at nearly 10pm because the deadlines were near and we really needed to finish the stuff, thank god it only happened 2 times (iirc). We even had had to set up meetings during the weekends to work on the damn projects.
During this period (april to late july), i had my EVE subscription suspended (at least i trained Battleships lvl 5 lawl) and i went out (club/bar/ocasional coffee with friends) 3-4 times tops.
It payed off as I got approved at all my 9 classes, but damn it, i got tired of college. That's why after graduation i'm just going to work and not going for specialization (i'll do it later if I see it's needed).
Now... about "what has worked best for me"? Just do it, if you keep busy time just flies. :) |

do your best, don't sweat it. it is what it is.
work hard, but make sure to give yourself plenty of downtime. go out, have a few, play some pool/darts.
your not going to perform well if your stressed. same if your overworked and same if your not rested enough. |

Alert your teachers and be honest about why you are having trouble. Every school should be able to provide you with help to cope with all the work but you need to want it yourself. Also I can recommend reading up on the "Getting Things Done" method and see if that works for you. |

Firstly don't get to worked up, it won't help you at all!
Look for the maximum gains for the minimum effort, quick wins will provide you with motivation to carry on with some of the more demanding areas. I tended to find other parts fell into place when doing this.
Working from todo lists tended to work well, when combined with the above, however don't spend to much time working on them!
Set time aside for yourself, but be sensible.
Oh and say No to the procrastination monkey.
