Just a quick one regarding targeting...does the yellow bracket in the overview mean you have already been target locked? I realise the red brackets mean you are being engaged but was wondering if the yellow brackets appear once they start to try and lock you or once they have actually achieved lock? Thanks :)

Yellow brackets will show up on the targetted ship only AFTER a target lock has been established, NOT if you are in the process of being locked.
And as you said, red brackets show that you are somehow being agressed, be it warp scrambled, E-wared or shot at.
Balance is important, but you will always adapt to changing circumstances and you don't whine about stuff you can't change. |

Correct - there is no way to tell when someone starts targeting you, I just assume everyone who isn't friendly is trying. The yellow indicates a lock is established, but no aggression has occurred - a good example would be if you're being scanned to see what cargo you're carrying (scanning isn't an aggressive act).

From my exp I have my setting set to auto target 5 targets when I am targeted and for npc,s this works not sure for real players. But When a npc starts to target me I auto target them back, so I know who is targeting me before its locked on me.

Edited by: Tandin on 19/11/2008 17:19:52 From a PvP perspective, generally having auto-target set above zero is rather commonly frowned upon. The reason is pretty simple, a lot of people run weapons/e-war hot during an active op and auto-targeting runs the risk of either a) prompting a courteous visit by concord in highsec or b) getting you gate aggro in empire or 0.0 as the hostile gang swoops down upon you.
Not to mention it seriously screws up your target list as the FC calls primaries and secondaries.
On a side note, if the other player is using a passive targeting system you probably won't see the yellow brackets at all. |
