It's a Templar, member of a medieval Christian military order that was very prominent in the Crusades, from the early 1100s until the early 1300s. |

The key is you assign your fighters to your gang mates and they run around changing targets for you. |

(Ugh, horrible grammar)
The short answer is that "they don't because they don't. They're just different." One motivation for this, however, might be due to the fact that fighters will follow their target in warp (with the default drone settings). If fighters would automatically pick targets, and that target warped out, it would be fairly easy to miss with lots of other things going on, and not know where your drones were. The fact that the target might warp to a hostile POS, which would then pop your 20m-a-piece fighters only makes this more pressing. (Presumably if you're GCC-flagged in lowsec and your fighters follow someone to a gate/station, they're be shot at by the sentries too I expect).
Regardless of the reasons though, this is how they work and something everyone needs to live with. |
