Edited by: Dasfry on 19/11/2008 19:49:50 How I went from 8fps in space to 60+ fps in space!
Thats 9FPS with all settings turned down, (Classic Client) and 60+fps with all settings turned on, (Premium Client)
For a long time now I was dealing with poor performance in Eve. I originally had
Geforce 6200 256meg video card P4 2.53Ghz (533FSB 256k cashe) 1 gig of ram
While in space I was getting approx 7 - 9fps on average. The menu system was horrid to load, the market was unbareable. it was bad.
So i upgraded my Video card to a Geforce 7600 512meg with same cpu and ram. My FPS did improve but it wasn't drasitc i went to approx 14 -17 FPS. Eve onlines HUD really Taxed my system and simply pressing Ctrl + F9 in space made it run pretty smooth but turning off the hud ment i couldn't play, no interaction.
So upgraded my ram from 1Gb to 2Gb, I honestly didn't notice much of a difference in FPS, or loadtimes.
So I upgraded the video card again this time to an ATI card HD 2600 pro. The performance was about the time with the ATI card performing slightly better.
I switched to a dual-core P4 LGA775 2.5Ghz CPU with 2meg cashe and that made a huge difference.
The HUD is fast, the market is fast and the eve mails are fast. Well in comparison to what they used to be.
In conclusion, check your CPU cashe! my impression is that it has a huge effect on gaming.
One way to check your CPU cash is to use CPU-Z (google it)

Edited by: Fujiko MaXjolt on 20/11/2008 20:11:06 You're partially right. Even though the GHz of the two cpus are the same and the names similar, the cores are vastly different. The new generations of pentiums are MUCH more efficient with their clock cycles compared to the old one you had (sounds like 2003-4 generation to me). The bigger cache on the newer generations undoubtedly contribute to their being so much faster per GHz, but the architectural evolution that's taken place has a far greater part in this. And no, it's not that it's a dual core (as you probably already know ).
Edit: In the very likely event that my message didn't get across, let me just say this; upgrading your cpu to a better/faster one will almost always improve your eve-performance over anything else you can do - until they enable multi-threading in the client, that is (which will probably never happen ). |

Thank you! This was a very interesting information! Especially because my current system is very similar to your original one your information helps to look into the right direction when I think about upgrading my hardware.

When your CPU is maxed, the level 2 cache is a big help. Atm the client appears to be over-using a computer's system for some reason. |
