Sentry drones are like sniper heavy drones. Worse tracking, better range.

so on a domi if ill be using all drone types (light for elite frigs, med for some frigs and cruisers, heavy for bc, bs and sentry for just about everything) would i need more than 55km drone range? |

sentry drones are pretty cool, they have good range and volley damage, sucks picking the damn things up afterwards tho, especially if you have to chase your sentries around in a bloody Moros

Edited by: someonenetko on 19/11/2008 20:43:52 well i was told that i should generaly use sentry drones and than the proper type (as i told in my last reply) if the ships get close... How close? I mean should i use sentry drones with only 1 link drone augmentator to launch heavies to cover me while i retreat or alot augmentators for huge range for sending normal drones to attack but than it would be logic to choose between those two not use both. |

sentry drones do not move. they will make short work of frigs as long as at long range, like guns. sentries can hit almost as far as guns. So if your base drone control range is 40 or 45, having 2 drone link augmentors will allow them to target and likely hit at around 80km.
It's nice to kill tackling or ew frigs before they become a nuisance. |

Edited by: Dechmeister on 19/11/2008 21:03:30 I use long range sentries, short range sentries, hammerheads & hobgoblins for 95% of missions I run. I personally can't stand the slow heavy drones, takes forever to go from ship to ship and back again.
Pop the Wardens to aggro/snipe stuff over 60km, then use the Gardes until they close in to under 15km (I use 3x Omnis, so my Gardes shoot far & track extremely well) and whatever goes under 15km either gets taken out last if I can tank it or the Hammers/Hobs come out if its a dangerous ship (like seeing that dreaded warp scrambler icon, insta pop that sucker!)
I use 2xCCC + 1x Sentry Damage rig, so my Gardes do 495DPS alone. With my setup, I warp in mission and never move until everything is cleared, so using sentries works for me, but people who like to move about/use an AB, sentries are a pain in the ass, since they can't move. |

Sentries are basically the drone version of large turrets. _______________________________________________ The Original Ultranoob 0.0 Carebear!!

Five sentries can one-volley frigates and destroyers at long range, like over 50km. Mine can hit out to 70km without any problem if I fit for it. Cruisers don't last much longer.
For missions where you start at range, they're ideal. Gardes are good at medium range. They do more damage and have better tracking, but Wardens have longer range.

Standard drone control range is 45km.. 1 Drone Link Augmentor I will add 20km on top of that etc. etc.. great for light, medium & heavy drones cause, they will fly out & engage target at those greater distances no prob but.. Sentry drones wont hit past 45km's so, you'll need to add an Omnidirectional Tracking Link I to hit further than 45km's & so on & so forth. My lvl4 Mission Domi |

Sentry drones DO move. They are just very very slow. If you don't move yourself long enough they mini bump your ship. I guess they introduced it to hinder them from drifting away.

Here's what I say to people who start using sentry drones.
Treat them like large caliber turrets.
Think of a set of Wardens as a set of 425mm railguns. You can do a lot of damage as things approach, but just like with turrets, targets can get underneath the tracking speed of the sentries. When things start getting in close you'll have to scoop up your sentries and deploy standard combat drones. |
