It can harm your efficency somewhat, but fitting a prototype cloak in a spare highslot and activating it as soon as someone you don't like the look of enters local is a good way to avoid things. It doesn't take long to skill for and is rather cheep.
You can't warp while cloaked with one ofc, but most pirates will give up rather quickly if you don't show up on scanners and are not docked ( I know I used to)
Cloaking is also a good last ditch method of escaping a gate camp, albeit risky if one of the campers is on the ball enough to see where you cloaked.
Just remember, you cant cloak when close to another object/ship or when targeted by something.
Finally, the prototype cloak is just a tool that enhances the most important aspect of surviving outside of high-sec, watching local.

My advice, just stay out of low sec if you don't want to be a target. Also...I think I've seen you in OMS local and I'll be more active trying to find you next time =P
Either: a) Make friends with the locals somehow so they don't shoot you b) Be extremely paranoid, staying aligned at all times, mashing your scanner button c) Stay in empire
You probably won't make as much in low just cause of how often you'll have to run. If you can find a nice low population low sec system this could be different though...

Edited by: nether void on 24/11/2008 18:45:30 Ah man I remember the good ol' days when mining in low sec was more lucrative than high. Back in like 2003 or something I used to mine jaspet in a Caracal (had like 2mil SP lol) and into a secure can. Fill 2 huge and a large can (one can per belt), and then pick it all up in a hauler. Man those were the days! Fat cash!
And boy was it fun to be in a hostile system! Checking local. Checking pilot info when a new local showed up. Getting to know the locals. Aligning to a station while mining. Warping out when a flashy type warped into the belt. =D Man that was fun!
Too bad it's not lucrative anymore, else people would still be doing it. =( That and I make 100x more from missioning (while I build my pvp skills and cash). It's sad really, cause the added threat was really exciting. =) --------------------

1) Watch local, and align as soon as someone enters. You may leave your mining spot and lose some ore, but better lost ore than a lost ship.
3D Tactical Anti-pirate mining;
Lock up as many of the mineral things, draw a line in space within the range of the rock eating lasers and travel back and forth whilst aligned, whilst never mining one cash cow too hard.

It pains me to say this, but if you mine in low-sec, in any system near to my other characters, you are going to die regardless of what you do. You will find yourself bumped hard sideways and continuously by a ship you didn't even see until it bumped you while being torn to shreds and having you cap drained and nothing that you can do including fitting stabs will save you from this fate....
You have to have a scout, and you have to log off when there is a pirate jumping becuase Hulks etc. always die otherwize.

Be in a corp with active people, where people know what they are doing who defend themselves properly. Control the system, secure it... and you can mine.
Make friends with the other locals, form an alliance, setup a defense channel which is actively used, kick out zombie leechers and anly accept active players.... and you can mine.
Move to a more quiet low sec, with corpies who pay attention... and you can mine.
Start top understand that security is part of the whole process, learn to understand that 1 extra covert ops instead of 1 extra Hulk is far more important.... and you can mine.
People who keep playing solo and/or the dumb non-effort way die, people who put in effort die less.
