CHARACTER CREATION Whatever you do, after picking your race, appearance and are choosing your name you might see a "choose career" menu. DON'T touch it. leave it as custom. let me repeat: do NOT assume this is anything other than "pin the tail on teh donkey" - I've done some tests and i could help but cringe - It's even worse than random...it's like some super n00b on *****.
For interest sake, and for sanity, here is some perspective on "careers"OFFICIAL
- Fighter
- Miner
- Scientist
- Manufacturer
- Commander
- Manager
REALITY
- Bounty Hunter (both PvE and PvP; even it's opposite, the pirate)..killers [Per/Wil]
- LongHauler (both mining and trading)..achievers [Int/Mem]
- Dockmonkey (both research and manufacturing; station campers; Refiners; Agent Runners)..socializers [Mem/Int]
- Jack-of-all-Trades (the simcity folks)..explorers [balanced]
As for what "ancestry" and "schooling" to choose? Well, pick the ancestry for the attributes, not skill; after that, pick the school that will give you captaincy specialization (see walkthrough)why captaincy? because the best boost you could ever give your character is the ability to fly a better ship. And being a hop, skip and jump from being able to pilot a hauler and destroyer is the best gift you could give yourself TUTORIALS AND STORYLINE AGENTS
hmmmm...well, i'm working on a critique of the starting tutorial (the popups) right now. I've completed a rather exhaustive introduction to agents, although i've still got to pour through some screenshots and critique the instructions the starter agent gives you. Originally by: Emily Spankratchet As I understand it, the referral after completing the post-tutorial sequence of storyline missions no longer works. It's a hang-over from the old agent/important mission system. If you do note down the name of the third agent you will discover that having slogged your way across the galaxy you can't persuade them to talk to you.
So, what to do now? Well, if you're wanting to do agent missions you need to choose a corporation. Many people go to their faction navy straight away and start grinding to get to level 4 agents, lots of loyalty points and a nice faction ship offer. Some people want to get R&D agents and so find an appropriate R&D corp to gain standing with. If you're not quite decided yet, you can continue to do missions for your starting corp - the university schools, for example, can give nice skill books as mission bonus rewards.
