Edited by: Salacir Khan on 21/11/2008 15:27:10 What im asking myself when i think about WiS is... will there be any running ?
Think its a rather difficult Question. If the IS the option to run everybody will do it ALL THE TIME. Cause, like CCP noticed... walking is pretty boring. It would result in a rediculous scenery... like in every other MMO. Just looks stupid.
On the other Hand. What if **** hits the fan out in space and Pilots need to hop in their Ships asap ? (like POS under attack, Titan tackled... something like that) It would be just as rediculous seeing a horde of Pilots walking casually down the moving walkways towards the Hangar like its sunday afternoon.
A suggestion for Player owned stations : Red Alert Button. Outpost Managers can activate the Alert. Flashing Red Lights everywhere. Sirens! Station commander briefs via an EvE Voice PA system. Once Code red is given players will be able tu run. Only the. The anoying red flashing lights and the horrid sound will keep people from exploting this.

I had similar concerns regarding this.
Also, will everyone be the same height and general build? I hope not. |

I'm no expert but i was under the impression you could just exit and be in your ship immediately without going back to your quarters. |

There will be elevators to your ship everywhere, and no, no decent pod pilot would run, even in an emergency. It's men that time doesn't wait for, not demigods. |

Edited by: Chaos Incarnate on 21/11/2008 15:56:09 Perhaps all the chairs in ambulation should double as ejection seats to allow for quick hangar access
Edit: Incidentally, I'd also like to have a conference table with seats that flip the user backwards into a room full of flame...so I can punish incompetence |

I raised this very issue with CCP staff at Fanfest. They said that it would look silly for the nigh-immortal demigods of New Eden to be seen running around everywhere. They also said that interior locations would use the bookmark system, and hopefully they'll make travelling between points instantaneous.
If the above is true, I would guess it would take 5-10 seconds for a pilot to get into his ship and undock. |

Running in stations?
Screw that, What about Crawling in stations? I don't imagine our characters will be quite capable of walking back to their ships after a night at the local bar.

Add a stamina meter, you can run for maybe 1 minute before it is depleted and takes about 5 mins to recharge. And above all, read my sig! |

hhahha that's exactly what I thought of when I saw this thread.
I vote for a FPS-styled sprint mechanism, like Sniper Wolf said. Run for x amount of time, but once you run out of energy, recharge for y amount of time. Maybe implement Quafe Energy Drinks for an additional boost! |

well when I'm at an airport I can speed walk to get somewhere faster.
Seeing people with somewhere important to go walkign really fast isn't uncommon at all.
there should be a walk fast option.

Stamina? Run, at 50% stamina get progressively slower until you hit zero, at which point you must stop moving to catch your breath. Walking keeps stamina regen/use at an equilibrium. Not moving at all lets stamina regen.
There, simple. Then all you need is a run toggle, like holding down shift while moving. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- PROPOSAL: Good Bug Reporting Incentives MMORPG: Many Men Online Role Playing Girls |

you could use both wasd and a point and click method although point and click needed some work or maybe I was just not used to it. The demo was ok but quite buggy/

Sounds cool anyway! And I am happy you could use point/click too, since im not a great fan of WASD myself!
SOEs SWG had a great point/click system once. Before they ruined the game including their P/C system for a horrible wasd control setting. Typical really. A few months later down the road when people started to leave the game like shiprats abandoned a sinking ship they tried to introduce P/C again, side by side of the introduced WASD, but this time it was an abomination of what they had! LOL. Anyway. Forget SWG! I am really looking forward for the ambulation.. It sounds bloody great!
