Look at the numbers? 1400 clip size is so stupidly small you'll spend *alot* of time reloading which cuts into your DPS significantly. Tracking is better by default, and you don't need the little bit of extra range in PVE anyway.

Hmm.... well from what I've observed... yes.. reload times are longer.
But they hit harder... granted not as frequently... but they DO hit harder.
Guess I'll have to see for myself.

Base range of 1400 II's is 23% greater than 1200 II's. This essentially negates the better tracking of the 1200's, as the farther you are from the target the faster he has to move to outrun your tracking.
The trick, of course, is to make sure you are farther away from your target. Thus the piloting skills needed for a Mael make it a hands-on experience vs missile boats.
I head either directly at or directly toward a target to minimize transversal. TBH, my experience with 1200's are on my Typhoon, and I am not really impressed with them. I expect it may be the lack of Gyros, as on a 'Phoon' the lows are full of your armor tanking mods.
Need to get my Mael out more though, I'm getting lazy flying my CNR.

1400 does have a much stronger burst damage specialy on really long ranges, i fit 11 rounds in the 1400 plasma i beleve im using and you can take out battleships before they even get close enough to do any sugnificant damage, I've been training drone skills for the frigs and cruisers witch have been working out well
still i dont think i would go with 3 rigs for resists, rather 1 ccc1 or 2 ccc1 and one or two resist rigs and or a shield rig with 3 resists in rig slots you will loose quite a bit of cap when you need to repair heavyly, you pull 3 groups instead of 1 as we all know missions even if you know the missions they will do a little what they want to do anyhow time to time and once scrammed and the groups close in faster than you can get rid of the frigs I'd vote for other rigs than just resist rigs

I'm gonna have to disagree with that.
If you take my setup, which only uses a heavy cap booster to regain cap, you don't want CCC's. Capacitor safeguards? Maybe, but I'd still go resist rigs. Simple fact is the cap rigs won't let you perma tank, and the time added to your tank by the rigs isn't significant enough. An extra 15 seconds to boost versus 250 more DPS tanked?
I can see using CCC's if you wanted a perma tank setup, but your tank would be far weaker causing you to need to boost constantly. I think the great thing about the Mael is that you can rapidly repair a lot of damage in one or two bursts of the XL shield booster.
The way it normally works with me is...
1) Lots of incoming damage after initial aggro (if rats are in range) 2) As I take down the web/scram and DPS dealers, I am boosting semi-frequently. Not perma, but enough to dent my cap. 3) Some DPS dealers and web/scram are gone, damage is significantly decreased. Boosting less frequently, this causes my cap to regen between boosts as my capacitor is closer to it's optimal recharge. 4) Mop up.

I have a sustained defense of 225 DPS and the light drones will pop most/all frigs by the time you pop a BS and the TP drones make hitting the cruisers easier *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

I'm usin this with GREAT SUCCESS: High: 1200s med: AB II, LSB II, invul II, 2 hards II, 1 faction tracking computer. Low: 3 x faction gyrostabs, 1 dc II, 1 tracking enhancer II
I don't have such a mighty tank as most of your setups. But I promise I run my missions a lot faster. If one just have a cool head and reads up on the mission it's no problem doing them with this kind of tank, plus I get so much better tracking and DPS than all these scared supertankers. |

1400's are lame. Serious. You get worse tracking PLUS the clipsize is ridicolous. I'd take 1200's over 1400's any day except for sniping in a pvp situation. |

I havent done missions for ages and sold my mael long time ago, but i guess it looked something like this
Highs 8*1200mm Arty
Medium Republic Fleet XL-booster 2x invus + boost amp (sometimes used 1xinvu + 2xspecific) (something, i think it was cap rech)
Lows 2x gyros 3x CFC
3*CCC
I think it was the low cap usage of the RF booster which allowed easily permarun it. Costs around 120mil guess? |

this is a relatively solid for Min BS5, T2 skilled pilot, first upgrades would be to a faction large booster, faction AB, gyros etc
