I'm on DSL and behind a router, although I don't have any ports closed. I can get into EVE for about a couple of minutes, but then it just boots me out, saying that, "The connection to the server was closed." Please help. :(

I just started having the same issue tonight myself. Cable modem with router and I keep dropping connections. Switched to another computer behind the router and had the same issue. Very disconcerting :(

had a corpmate with the same problem..for like 2 months..finally he updated the router firmware and voila... no more crashes. Until he did that I had to have him locked while we were mining, then when his icon went red i just webbed and warp jammed his ship until he reconnected. EW mining...Player VS Pyrox :P

It's not my router firmware. I checked out the manufacturer's website, and it turns out that I have the most up-to-date version of the firmware.

Having this trouble when I run any other bandwidth intensive application in background on my network.. Does not have to be on the same computer, just on the same LAN segment. I tested.
While I have enough bandwidth EVE will mercyless shut down / CTD after several minutes at best, usually IF it LOADS at all, after 40-70 secs.
Just lags out, gone.
If I dont run the app, I m fine..its pretty obvious that EVE does not want any other communication on the same net.
Why and how I cant tell --yet
Safety measure ? JEalousy ? Two Eves are acceptable obviously as ppl run two accounts on same net..so there goes..
Maybe someone else can share some time on investigating some more--would be appreciated
Cheers

Can you provide more data - e.g. do you have anything bandwidth hunry running on your local LAN as well ?
If this gets worse even, we should all ask EVE support to help us.
I m a bit annoyed only, as I cannot run some things while playing - but in your case it seems worse even.

To answer Mrjordan's question:
I don't have anything else running, no other apps, no antivirus, nothing! I've been playing EVE for about 3 weeks now, without any problems whatsoever, and the problem just started yesterday for me...

I see..hmm you either have something on your system / LAN that _might_ cause it by e.g. eating bandwidth or a slightly unstable ISP.
For the former use task manager network tab to track how much you re sending out with a) NO EVE running and b) EVE active..
If you send / read more than 1k when NOT plaing Eve you might have some passenger onboard
Hope it helps, IOI

"I strongly recommend that you uninstall the client and then reinstall it"
*sigh*... I know this isn't the solution cos I've done a complete reformat reinstall of WINDOWS and I have nothing installed apart from EVE at the moment.... and it still doesn't work...

I also get disconnected after 1-10 min. I asked the support and send them a trace-log. They said they never saw such a good and clean link to the server. They cannot help :( I can telnet the game server when the CTD occurs, so the link is ok. The computer is located in a big LAN with more than enough bandwith!

Just started today for me, grey screen or connection to server was closed every 5 mins or so. Totally out of the blue, I havent changed anything for it to happen. My comp connects through a wireless router + adsl modem, its not the network though, its still transferring data, its just Eve thats the problem ------------------------------------------

Same issue here. Client disconnects, more frequently if I am idle for even short periods of time. The network connection is fine as I am running a PingPlotter trace in the background to confirm that constantly. I'm using a Netgear router, model WR614v4. These disconnects started happening since the last patch mostly. |

Edited by: loladoll on 12/08/2004 17:30:41 Edited by: loladoll on 25/07/2004 20:20:05 I have this problem since a year. After about 30 minutes maximum i get disconnected. I have WinXp with cablemodem behind a router/firewall.
I dont have problems with anything else disconnecting. Other on line games (eg warcraft, command and conquer) dont have this problem : they keep on working and stay connected for hours and hours. So i think the problem is with eve/CCP
Now that more people have it, maybe it willl get solved
P.S. i think that this tendency of losing my connection has made me a carebear shunning all combat and dangerous activities
______________________ edit aug 12 2004 yesterday i had to change the power of my cable modem (it burned out) and I have had no disconnects today. Even let the game iddle for half an hour and it held steady . So either I have a streak of luck, or the patch resolved my connection problem or the source of my problem was a faulty powersupply for my cable modem. Now lets see if it holds for a couple of day's ______________________________________ live is tough and then you get a clone |

I have this prob occasionally...
so i ripped up 3 carpets in the house to re-lay cat 5 and modem cabel to move the modem/router to my room so i could monitor it properly connected to the internet fine and had stable connection, plugged in a hub at the old place so all the other computers in the house were connected and found I had a dodgy CAT 5 between my computer and the hub.
Also had this problem if I told my router to stay permanently connected, solution was to tell my router to disconnect after an hour and as I go to work/sleep for 18 hours a day there's not a prob and as soon as I turn my comp on it connects to the net. -----------

"Packets out of sequence"..
For you all that are having connection problems that are behind a router/firewall. Have you simply tried removing the device and attempted a direct connect?
That message "too many packets out of sequence" is quite possibly your firewall having internal processor latency issues. In plainspeek, your router can't route the packets fast enough under heavy load.
A simply traceroute or a ping test won't highlight the problem, but when you're running a bandwidth intensive program as eve has the potential to be, eventually you can get windowing errors that will accumulate and boink.. you're disco'd.
So.. before screaming at CCP about this, try some troubleshooting on your end. Even IF you're router is set to pass through everything, it may still be cause.

I am on DSL behind a router as well (SBC Yahoo), using pppoe, and I would get logged out every 5-10 minutes or so. I tried: reducing MTU, increasing dhcp lease time, resetting modem + router. Finally I disabled the firewall feature (not NAT, but stateful packet inspection) in the router, and reinstalled the EVE client. So far, so good.

"Windows detects no connection" - this isn't an eve issue at all. This is a problem with your configuration. Try this in order, checking your connection after each step - upgrade nic driver to current revision - set your nic to 10/half - change the cable - change your nic - Remove the router
If your nic locks at 10/half, try 10/full. 100/full. See if it stays connected.
Cabling issue. Make sure your network cables aren't running on top of your power cable. EM radiation can and will cause packet loss.
Remove your router. If you remove the router and it suddenly works, then guess what! IT'S THE ROUTER! Try upgrading it, resetting it to factory, and enabling features bit by bit. If you turn on stateful inspection and suddenly eve doesn't work, then that means that stateful inspection is causing too much latency.
There ARE issues with these DLS routers/firewalls. They're NOT always fast enough to handle bandwidth intensive apps. Remember, these things aren't expensive. They're cheap, and they're designed to be cheap, and you get what you pay for.
If you're getting a lot of latency, then the VERY FIRST STEP you should do is remove your router, and see if that solves it.
Also, please use Google! Just about everything I've posted here on network troubleshooting can be found out by about 5 minutes of googling.

Well, if its not related to Eve, how come everything else on the internet works? If I dont start up Eve there is no problem at all with the internet. BUT when i have started Eve it takes max 5 mins before I loose my connection to Internet, strange?

You can always try saturating your connection with other types of traffic and see if they start failing. It's also possible your ISP has enable some sort of filtering like mine has. It's also possible that CCP's tightening of network code has started exposing flaws in players ISP connections.
Or, it's possible that something happened on your computer to cause this. Now, since 99% of the players aren't posting here about network issues, it's a safe bet to *start* with troubleshooting your PC & network connection.
What was the last few things you did to change your configuration before it started going downhill? This should include software installs, driver changes, cable changes, firewall changes. The last few changes should be your first suspect. Don't rule out a change to eve, but it only makes sense to look at your car if it's driving rough, before hollering at highways department about bad roads. ------------------------------ No sig is a good sig. ------------------------------ |

I'm having the exact same problem. Eve used to run just fine. I never changed anything on my computer, hardware or software but now Eve just crashes after a few minutes in game (only if I access a menu, undock or mine). I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling which did not work. I'm thinking it isn't my fault as I didn't change anything at all. Eve has been working great for a while and now it is almost impossible to play.

THIS BETTER BECOME A STICKEY, DAMN IT!
"The Great Router Disconnect Bug" ... or is it a conspiracy?
What's the worst malfunction/problem you can have with Eve... You can't play it!
Ya, Magically, all of a sudden, even if you've been playing on a router for the past year on Eve with no problems whatsoever... Now you DISCONNECT, now you CAN'T freakin play!
I'm having the same problem here, and until I read this thread, I thought I was the only one. I can play for about one to ten minutes, then I always, ALWAYS get freakin booted from the server... the screen turns gray, then the login screen pops up and says I have been disconnected from the server. So the problem is on CCP's side. I have been playing over a year with no problems since the last patch.
LET'S get something straight, for the people that are experiencing this problem, there is nothing wrong with our routers... I bought a freakin new router for crying out loud! I have deleted my caches, and I have even reinstalled the game, before I even realized it was the router, but no luck. I haven't had any hardware changes, no new programs have been installed, nothing has changed. So it's on CCP's end! I can initially log into the game, I can surf the net, play other computer games, etc.
OBVIOUSLY, if we can log into Eve fine, and then get disconnected a few minutes later every single time, then there is something wrong with Eve's servers.
I will repeat, there is nothing wrong with the router, I've been using the router since the game started last year. Now I can't play the game WITH the router. I even bought a new router, because my ISP said that it must be the problem. Those bastards! But to my dismay, this didn't help, so I wasted money doing so. So, I bypass the router, I just plug my cable modem directly into my computer and I can play fine without any disconnects.
CCP did something since the last patch, this only makes sense. Or maybe their game server software has been updated, and it boots router connections. The question is, is this intentional? Do they NOT want us to play with more than one computer? Do they NOT want us to play with friends on LAN's? Or, is this a bug? If this is intentional, then CCP is cutting their own throat, because can you imagine how many people play on routers?!
Please help us, damn it. We can't play!
This freakin sucks. I enjoy playing with two computers, and sometimes I have LAN parties here and we all play Eve, but now we can't play anymore together. And what really, really sucks, is that CCP takes so damn long, so freaking long to reply to support, so it's just feels hopeless. Jesus, I've invested in 10 video cards, 10 game accounts, 10 monthly membership fees, and now a new router just to play this game with my friends. We may just quit the game, that's 10 customers lost, if CCP even cares.
CCP can't even invest in better Customer Support. On these boards and in in-game chat, I see so many people complaining and moaning, waiting and waiting, and waiting some more... they better do something for crying out loud! I'm a good customer. But now I've already bought another game. Can you hear us CCP?! I'm about ready to say, you know what.
God knows how much money they make. I've seen 10,000 people online before, can you imagine at least 8,000 of these people, multiplied by $14.95! I know about Internet business, I have my own Internet company, I understand how important Customer Support is, and your support just plain S U C K S! And if it doesn't improve, trust me, people will walk, we'll just go to another game, eh.
ONCE AGAIN... there is nothing wrong with our routers. ONCE AGAIN... this just started happening after the last patch.
DIAGNOSIS: this Router Disconnect is being caused from upgrades in the last patch, or CCP has just recently upgraded their server software and some change is creating the Router Disconnect.
TEMPORARY CURE: If you want to still play, just don't use your router for the time being. Plug your cable from your modem directly into your computer. God knows when CCP will actually do something about it.
Peace and good will...

I've been pondering this a bit. Dark Rifter, what model of router do you use? This may be a model specific issue, and if we can narrow it down...
Also, does your router use it's own MAC to register with your provider, or does it clone yours? ------------------------------ No sig is a good sig. ------------------------------ |

I've been having disconnections problems since i started playing in May/June, got kicked out at the following times yesterday 19-37 20-23 21-41 23-40 00-05 (GMT i think, might have been +1).
I'm going to try it this weekend on someone elses router setup (same ISP) which should help determine if its EVE/ISP or my connection/pc. -- Tranquil Suul

It's not a model specific issue. You are failing to remember that I've used the router for the past year without any problems. Other people as well have used their routers with Eve without any problems. Now, only now since the last patch have problems occured. Can you please comment about this, and confirm with me that something has changed on CCP's end.
To answer your question, I have been using Linksys #BEFSR81. The brand new router that I just wasted money on is Linksys #BEFSR41. But it doesn't matter what router it is, routers can't be used anymore on Eve. Why don't you hook up a router and see how much luck you have. Regarding MAC, sorry, I have no idea what you are talking about.

Msn messanger = eve = constant crashes as described.
I stopped msn at startup, and now eve = happy mionkey for the first 30 mins, then it slows down to a crawl.
Thatd be my pet viruses i cant F***** shift, i reckon.
But do try removing msn messanger and maybe yahoo messanger.
Hope this helps i know how much constant booting sucks.
Any memory leakage problems that might slow down eve after 30 minuits? i have to restart my comp then, then ok for another 30 mins.
San. Character "Widescreen" is a scammer; beware.

Some ISP have problems with EVE using so little bandwidth and just close down your connection.
Some ISP got problems with their bandwidth in some regions of the world. Pakets between client and server are dropped in between making the client shut down.
CCP somehow reopened an old bug in the EVE sound system. If you got a mem leak, try turning off your sound in the client.
Cable and some dsl/adsl systems uses shared connections in some areas of the world. If your neighbors use a lot of bandwidth ...

hi, i just bought this game yesterday and so far i'm not too happy with it.. i had to download the full version just to install it cos for some reason when i installed from the disc i just got loads of errors.
anyway after sorting that i proceded to character creation only to get booted before i finnished.. i re-connected, rushed through it and got disconnected just after i was told how to start and stop. i was running Nothing else, i have an ORIGO (8400 i think) router with the latest firmware. it has a built in firewall and i'm running ZoneAlarm as well. i dont realy want to dissable my protection just to run this game cos XP just aint save without it, and i don't want to spend my 30day free trial trying to get the game to work!!
someone on the first page mentioned opening port 26000 inbound UDP has anyone else tried it?? i'm going to give it a go when i get home from work. are there any other ports that should be forwarded??

Well i managed to solve my problems. I bought a new network card and adsl modem, has been perfect since then, im using my old adsl router simply as a hub.
I was using onboard LAN before too.
If you can try out someone elses network kit with your pc and isp it may solve some problems. -- Tranquil Suul

sorted mine too.. i opend port 26000 on UDP and TCP and it works perfect :D
i found this in the support section:-
Quote: If you are connecting from behind a corporate or personal firewall, you will need to enter the server's IP address into your firewall configuration, which is 157.157.139.10 port 26000 when using TCP/IP. You can verify that you are getting a clear signal to the sever by doing the following: Select start->run and type in "cmd". Once you get the command prompt write "telnet 157.157.139.10 26000" and hit enter. If the messages "Connecting To 157.157.139.10...Could not open a connection to host on port 26000 : Connect failed" come up you are not getting through to the server for some reason.

This started on me yesterday evening.
First up, the market stopped working. Couldn't get info from it. Then I couldn't jump at a gate without the connection message coming up or grey screen. Server dropped my connection several times yesterday just trying to jump at a gate. This has only really happened since the new patch. (I couldn't get market once before, but an unscheduled re-boot happened fairly shortly afterwards.)
And yes, I'm behind a router. Time to turn on the logserver this evening and see if it happens again. This is a real pity as up to that point, the lag problems I'd been havin have improved no end with the new patch.

I'm dropping out to the grey screen/connection lost several times an hour. It's only started since the last patch on Tuesday (1722).
Unlike others I'm not behind a router, I have a direct connection between my cable modem and nic. Although I suppose you can regard cable modems as being on a huge router in the same area. I'm in the UK on Cambs NTL.
I've spent the night checking for virusses, trojans and so on.. to no avail. I've rejigged my nic drivers, deleted the eve cache, etc. Now I'm downloading the latest eve full client to perform a uninstall/reinstall but I'm not hopeful.

Edited by: Bernard Normal on 13/08/2004 19:56:26 I had the same outages, Dajohig. So we're left wondering if it was the patch or something NTL have done. I tried getting in touch with NTL but all you get is some guy on a helpdesk with a script.
Have you done a tracert to the Eve server address? Mine ends up here:
9 14 ms 15 ms 16 ms iceland-telecom1.tsd.cw.net [166.63.214.198]
Whereas a friend on Nildram (now Pipex) DSL ends up one step further at:
11 ls-uk-gw1-b.isholf.is (157.157.139.2) 18.254 ms 28.240 ms 19.027 ms
As well as getting further, what strikes me is that these are Iceland addresses when I'm sure they claim the servers are in the UK somewhere.

Hey ppl
I have the same stuff too after every "Castor" Patch , this time no difference but here is one for you guys.
If i run my miner account on 1th PC it works fine, log off and try to log my other account in and i get the grey screen of death.
If CCP tells me its my equipment i just .
I got it solved by unpluggin my ADSL modem and router and replugged it now everything is working fine again.
Think those CCP Patches mess with yr buildin firewall or internet settings dunno but at least i can play normal again.

GL to all of you

Have been having this problem myself since latest patch had a problem originally with the castor patch once it came online couldn't stay on for more than a couple of minutes this turned out to be some git from ntl selling illegal 1mb connections and apparently the s****horpe server went from ok to fully loaded in a few weeks after lots of shouting at ntl this was sorted now since the latest patch ive been having connection problems.now i have 5 friends also in the local area connected via ntl and they are ok so assume problem must be with eve have yet to find out.i have changed absolutely nothing other than get the latest patch and connection was ok before that so will wait and see what happens before tearing someone a new earhole again !!!

I had a DI-714P working for at least 2 years. Best fscking router you could ever buy for the buck. I gave it away 5 days ago. Changed my new DI-624 from being just a Wireless access point with a 4 port switch to a Router/WAP/4port switch. This was on thursday. EVE worked, Tranquility worked, for hours. myeve.eve-online.com worked, secure.eve-online.com worked.
I come back yesterday, 4 days after it worked, and none of the above works reliably. About 99% of the times it doesn't work!!!!! WTF??? You're telling me it's my router? Bull****. I even upgraded the firmware to the latest dated 13-august-2004. Every other website out there works. Every other https site works, except for EVE's https sites. You're gonna tell me it's my problem? Bull****.
CCP better fix it. And yeah, sent a customer support message to them already. I won't expect a reply, because I've never received any replies from them. I must be really stupid for paying these bastards $24 a month.
Cheers. -C |

guess what. All of you that say bytchyng and moaning does nothing, explain this to me. All of EVE works. Both earlier mentioned websites work fine.
I came home from work yesterday night, and misteriously everything worked fine. I believe there was a server reboot looking at the server status graphs.
So yes, thank you very much. CCP eff up. Thanks for reverting to previous functionality CCP. And next time, don't fscking tell me it's my problem.
Cheers and keep it up. -C.
Edits 1&2: censorship sucks, spelling mistakes suck :)
Edit3: PS, I changed absolutely NOTHING on my router, or my computer or my cable modem. Nothing fellas. If any of you wants to see my router configuration i'll be more than happy to share it with you and hopefully your problems will disappear :).
Edit4: oh yeah :), no sign of reply from CCP customer support. Totally expected - nothing new. Life goes on ;). |

Same here from day#1 Before I continue: It CANT be just the brand of ones firewall or anything- I have two ISPs and I tried on both - one firewalled the other directly connected. Both drop after I do the test below;
PLUS: NO other online game I play has had this issue: BF 1942, Ultima Online..etc So - come one --it must be somehow EVE related;
It took me some weeks to figure out it has something to do with network activity on the same LAN/WAN segment.
At least you can reproduce your cases easily:
Start EVE up, play. Start ANY bandwidth sharing tool like e.g. edonkey, overnet, etc.
Wait for 10 minutes..see your effects.
I couldnt think of any other tool for using bandwidth while being able to configure it to only us 1 (one) KB for upload and 4 (four) KB for download - if you have any other that connect and stream up+down constantly in bg please let me know.
I figure likewise happens with your (cable) ISPs as you usually share bandwidth on a segment of the provider that modifies your max up/download over time, because other users may start heavy up/downloads. EVE seems to be jealous of any other app that wants a tiny little bit of bandwidth themselves---maybe a hack protection of the client ?
Devs - give us a hint here please - we can reproduce this.

Im having the same issues. Been experiencing this since castor 1649 or what ever it was called. Getting mighty tiresome.

Perhaps part of the problem is that Eve Online uses TCP packets? Normal games that relies on UDP packets dont care much for lost packets, they just keep on transmitting new ones. Perhaps an overbusy TCP queue in routers gets Eve servers to consider the connection closed.

I don't know if this is a router issue or my computer. I plug into my friends network via their router which goes to a DSL modem and out. Neither of us can play eve. I disconnect from the network and it works fine. I cannot isolate the cause. I've tried to skimp down on every service, uninstal apps my msn and yahoo. I've run numerous antivirus scans with symantec antivirus and adaware. He's updated the firmware to his linksys router, we've restarted all computers, the router, the modem, and no change. I plug into the network, and no one can play eve. We'll log in, and as we are trying to log in things will crash with "connection closed" Or it would just lag out. I'm really out of options.. I need new ideas. I've also removed myself from the workgroup, readded myself. Out of ideas folks, any input would be appreciated.

I got thrown out soooo many times last night it's unfunny. I was in the training grounds, and my EVE kept lagging out. Then I uninstalled sp2, and it works fine again (I think). Eve is indeed an unusual program. All sorts of problems here, it's so hard to diagnose what is doing it. IMO, in 80% of the cases, it's software/hardware disagreeing with each other. I am also trying to get EVE to work here at my workplace, but it comes up with the "26000" port thing, and I don't know how to access my firewall on this corporate pc, any ideas?
