I know stealth bombers are generally looked upon as weak, and thats fine, but I'm using mine for ratting - not pvp. I couldn't single volley anything bigger than a cruiser in my nem.
The only time I feel vulnerable is when I jump into low sec. Are there any good methods for figuring out beforehand if there is a hostile gate camp on the other side? I feel like if the gate campers have an interceptor with them I'm a done deal because all they have to do is bum rush me and its over.
also - are stealth bombers and cloaking in general good if I want to be the one gate camping?

You see, low sec has gate guns which will instapop any interceptor or stealth bomber that causes aggression.
Interceptors and setalth bombers and pretty much all frigates are fairly useless in gate and station situations as the gate guns cause problems. However, frigates are so small that you will never get caught in a gate camps (as long as you don't hang around) so you can cruise around and try to find people in belts. --

thanks. so in the long run am I just wasting my time with a SB? should I be training something else? If I'm not going to be able to put my SB to good use later on when I have more skills (for something besides ratting)I'd be dissapointed. I've been told they can be really effective when used in packs

I wouldn't say that frigs wont get caught at a GC, I have killed many in low sec gate camps as well as shuttles, noob ships etc.
You can use your map to see what the system looks like you are about to jump into. I would link on how to do it but honestly I am too lazy to do so right now. But if your map is setup correctly you can see all kinds of things like ships killed in last hour etc. for a system.
I wouldn't camp a gate/station in anything less then a BC/Hac as sentrys can be rather nasty. 0.0 and SB's Gate Camps are rather fun if you feel like taking a run out there. No sentrys to deal with and you see all kinds of traffic. I suggest EC-P8R (The Torrinos gate) as a good system to 0.0 camp in.

Stealth camps, brings to mind something very unique pulled off by Slacker Industries in thier tenure in FW.
3 Redeemers sniping, a few rapiers, falcons, arazus, ceptors.
They'd sit the whole deal cloaked on ossogur gate in amamake and catch any Minmatar militia coming through. At the time it was the prime of FW dead in the middle of empyrean age, plenty of targets. It was something truly original that I'm sad to say only happened a handful of times - was quite a challenge and if they kept it up I may have killed one of those redeemers... [center]

I ran a manticore setup with: 3x Cruise launchers
2x Sensor Boosters w/ Speed scripts 1x Warp Disruptor 1x Target Painter
2x BCUs.
Sit on a 0.0 gate with a mobile small warp disruptor anchored behind it. Cloak about 30km away from the bubble, as people in the bubble turn and approach the gate if its something you can kill, kill it.
Worked moderately well for me :)

I think the sb's have been reported as a bit crap after the missile nerf.I'll have to check but I'm sure CCP stated in the dev forums they didn't have time to sort out the sb's before the patch and that they're looking at the options for it just now , including possible things like being able to use torps as well as cruise on it.

You can't use bombers and interceptors in gatecamps in LOWSEC but you can use them in 0.0, and you can use them against legitimate war targets -- factional warfare opponents included. You can also use them in asteroid belt piracy, so they're not useless. Finally I guess you can use them against flashy red pirates in lowsec, anyone can shoot those without being punished.

I know I sound like an idiot but nerf - what do you mean by missle nerf? I take take nerf to mean that its when CCP makes some kind of modification to an existing ship/module/weapon that people don't like? when something gets ruined?

basicly you know if you use T1 heavy missiels that they have kill the damage.. on them a nerf is when someone changes key game types to please someone elce... most of the time a nerf will down grade something about whatever ur nerfing.. so they mess with it to make it weeker in other words.

What he said, Arazu with gang mates in BS's using Remote Sensor Booster on it and an occasional Remote Rep if the aggro cycle is too short will be able to scram pretty much anything. The bigger the gang, the faster the lock will be, and the sentries will have to cycle through more targets allowing the ships to share aggro instead of having it focused on them. Arazu also has a bonus for warp disruptor range you are basically looking at a 30km point at least Please resize signature to the maximum allowed size of 400 x 120 pixels. Navigator |

I once got targeted by a tempest in under 2 seconds while in a frigate. Was rather shocked by that. Podded me in about the same time too. Guy had an inty remote sensor boosting him of all things. Very strange but it worked.

Edited by: Zloj MaNGooST on 27/11/2008 13:13:53 dunno, who told you SBs are "extremely effective in packs". snipe HAKs are much more effective you get insta damage, with much more dps, plus ability to get larger targets. ps: long time haven't got fights in lo-sec, but as i remember, best ship for that was BS, or HD. At least BC

I have always imagined:
One day I would solo camp a 0.0 chock point in my battleship with an anchored bubble.
10 hostile battleships jumps and open fire on me while smacking me in local 'you f*cking nub camper'
Then lag
100 stealth bombers and 30 falcons de cloak ranging 100km-200km around the gate.
An industrial come in loot and salvage, stealth bombers and falcons cloak.....
