I wanted 5 guns, but none were within 5 jumps, so I placed an order for 5 guns with a range of 5 jumps. Immediately 1 gun was purchased for less than my order price, 3 jumps away.
Why is it that I can not see this order on the market? I don't have any filters active either. I placed my order in-station.
Also, sometimes people pay more than I ask for items. Why is that? _________ If your not dyin' your not tryin'. |

First rule of the market: best price wins.
With your first case, either you didn't see that order, or someone was creating a sell order at the same time that you were creating your buy order. As such the transaction went through at the price he specified.
In the case of people paying more than what you ask for them, this will happen if they attempt to buy from a higher priced order in the station where you are selling. Because best price wins, they must buy from you, but they are still free to pay whatever they offered for the goods.

No, because while I had the order box open, it showed that there was 1 item to be bought and it showed the price. But at the same time my order box would show that 1 item, the market itself would not.

Your saying if; Player A is selling for 500K. Player B is selling for 600K. Player C is buying for 700K.
The transaction will go to player A at 600K?
Does this only happen on an immediate transaction, or does it happen with orders too? _________ If your not dyin' your not tryin'. |

This happens on all transactions. In EVE reality there is no difference between immediate orders and long term orders other than duration.
So in short, yes, you can specify that you want to buy something for 200k above the lowest sell price and the person who is offering for the lowest will sell their goods for your over-priced order.

I'll pop another example in here.
I was lucky enough to be selling an Armageddon in 0.0 territory, had it up for 54m. It sold for 70m. This is because the person setup a buy order for 70m without looking at the market, or clicked another more expensive order to buy from for some reason; but these things happen all the time. If you have a few items you want to buy (lets say 8) and 1 is 130,000, 2 are 140,000, and another 20 are 150,000; if you select the 20 and type in 8, you'll pay 8x150k but the lower price orders will be filled before the 150k sell order will, leaving only 15 @ 150k in the sell orders.

For database reasons the lowest sell price always sells first. If you offer more you simply give them more than they asked. The same happens with buy orders.
I guess we need to get that stickied or something because there's a thread about it every week.

There is something wrong here.
Currently on the market I am showing several units in various places. Closest is 4 jumps away. I don't want to pay that much, nor do I want to go that far, so I am putting in a buy order for 3 jumps. The buy window is showing "best regional" with 2 units only 1 jump away. But the market list of sellers does not show this sell order.
Whats up with that? _________ If your not dyin' your not tryin'. |

Is it possible you're filtering out lowsec markets?

Not possible as I operate deep within 00 and all of my orders are from there. I figure it does sound like a filtering issue though. But I am not filtering anything. _________ If your not dyin' your not tryin'. |
