I would like to propose an idea for an overhaul or addition to the mechanics of mining. Currently it's boring and very open to macro exploitation and I believe a system could be put in place to alleviate this.
I suggest that asteroid (and ice) fields should spawn in a hidden state and then need to be found by exploration. After they are found you can warp to them and bookmark the location.
These fields contain asteroids which yield far more ore per minute of mining than regular fields. However, they are initially protected by fairly serious strength rats or rogue drones.
This means that an efficient mining operation would involve finding a site, killing off the rats/drones and then you could extract the ore an a greatly increased rate. This is a bit more involved and exciting than just warping to a belt and sucking up the ore slowly. It would also be harder for macro bots to exploit.
What do you think?

sounds good, though it shouldn't be too much greater than regular belts.

Edited by: wert668 on 27/11/2008 02:36:10 This don't solve the problem at all lol And you adding need of killings rads what isn't good, because mining/industrial chars don't learning this. You simply want to say them what they supposed to do.

Well, it needs to be a greater rate to offset the time spent finding the site and killing the rats.
The overall ore recovered from a successful operation should be comparable to that which would be recovered under the current mechanics in that time with the same number of participants.

perhaps having a higher tier ore (slightly) in these belts? jaspet and such and such, in small quantities of course...

I agree that mining does need to be made more interesting. Making more asteroids available via exploration would seem like a good idea.
I do believe that the existing belts should remain, but reduce the ore content of the asteroids to an amount that would only really benefit new players and small time miners. Perhaps making Strip Mining lasers ineffective with these smaller asteroids.
Making higher end ores available in the new exploration areas, may seem like a good idea, but I think it would upset the eve economy too much. Perhaps if they were in extremely small concentrations then it might be ok.

The devs have already stated that almost all roids will be moving to a type of exporation type system.
This will allow them greater control of the roid's. Macrointel, the place were the nature order of the universe does not hold sway. Pirates and ore thief's are congrated by carebears for the actions. |
