there's another post on this page "game freezes at splash screen" which mentions the same prob...i've had this prob for weeks and weeks and CCP says it's something with my machine - yet EVERY time I look at this forum there's yet another mention...they told me they've had 5 GMs look at the problem and found nothing.
Send a report to CCP support. ALl we can do is continue to tell them that there's an absolutely debilitating bug somewhere IN EVE that's causing this.

Well I doubt that it's my machine I was playing just fine then got lots of starts and and stutters like lag. Rebooted the game and all is well then it happens again.
Then stops then starts so I reboot the machine and get the problem we are talking about here.
So I figger it's my machine:/
Start up MOHAA - fine there Start up DAOC - Fine there Start up Neocron - Fine there
So.................GMs?

Hello. well I have to add to this complaint as well. I started off with 934 or so and the thing runs fine up to the server log in screen past the star and accept screens. I later on upgraded to 1077. The thing worked ok. had occasional crashes to the desktop untill after 3 days of playing. I now can't get past the star screen and the system just hangs there not in error or "no reponse" issues is present the system just simply stays at the star screen. I removed the game entirely and reinstalled it back to 934, I could get to the log in screen then too. Then I upgrade using the downloaded patch and "pop" when i try to start it up again i get the star screen once more before even seeing the accept decline screen now. I have dx9.0a running a geforce 4 440 mmx and got a decent machine to play with. I have a unresolved directshow error now and don't know if that is what is hurtting me or not. Open to suggestions too

MOHAA - is not DX9 only. DAOC - is not DX9 only. Neocron - is not DX9 only. EVE - is DX9 only.
The problem lies in your video or audio driver not working well with DX9 features. Installing the latest driver is not allways the solution. I would put my money on a digitally signed driver that is approved my Microsoft.
If you get errors running dxdiag I am not surpriced you are getting errors running EVE.

im having the same problem. for some reason my vid card and directx 9.0a are having a problem. my geforce 4 mx. i seem to be having a problem with direct3d though i think this stems from a crash i had in a compleatly diffrent game. ------------------------------------------------ nomad, vagabond, call me what you will. |

could be dx9 but i am inclined to think it's another conflict somewhere since dxdiag shows no problems, and reverting to the old "signed" drivers makes no difference.
I FINALLY (after 6 or 7) emails from support of no use) got rid of it by eliminating everything from my boot startup except explorer, navapw32 and systray
hence I think it's a conflict with something else that may have been running

The DX suggestion is a good one, but I am suspicious that it is the root cause. I too am hitting this problem, with the added joy of NO version of 1077 being able to get patched in (even on a totally clean install) without CRC errors, no matter where I d/l it from.
Before it quit letting me at least install, I was getting that star screen lockout as well. This ALL started with patch 1077, and everything worked just fine before it.
The devs seem to be totally silent on this so far... :-\

I also have the same problem. It worked fine for most of an evening. Near the end of the evening the game seemed to lock every minute or so for anywhere from 2 to 30 seconds at a time. This cleared up every time I restarted the program or computer, though it started to happen again after 10-15 minutes. The next day the game locks completely at the splash screen and just sits there with no errors and using no system resources. Nothing was changed or added between these times. Since then I have cleaned registry, hard drive, optimized RAM etc trying to get it to do anything else (including reinstalling program and repatching).
If anyone manages to find something that helps, please post as I only got to play for 6 hours :(

Try what Salient did. Prevent the startup of other processes that might be interfearing with EVE.
