I have heard (and it may be complete rubbish) that asteroid belts have a maximum amount of ore and that if your only pulling out the highergrade ores ( pyrozx and scordite in my home system ) then you can be left with a belt full of veldspar roids the size of space stations
any truth in this and if so do any mining corps want to come and strip mine the veld out of Isikemi

Well if you mine in the belts yourself, why dont you mine veldspar? Or the locals in that system. I doubt people would want to come down to mine all the veldspar alone ;-)

Indeed that WAS true at about the end of last year. Everybody complained that all high end asteroids only had tiny amounts of ore inside. A dev explained that this was due to the problem you explained (max size of a whole belt instead of each single asteroid so finally the mined asteroids had no place to grow again).
I think this was fixes around the introduction of Castor. Today you shouldnŠt have any problems with this. If you mine high-end ores only it should refresh completely in about a week (? ... about.). |

thanks for the replies guys
good to know that the higher grade minerals will contimue to regenerate.
Strip mining Isikemi in Lonetrek is still a great idea if you need a ton of minerals

Actually, use a survey scanner to see how much ore is left in the roid you are mining. Don't suck it all up, or it will take up to a couple of weeks to grow back. Leave about 400 ore left in the roid. All the big time miners know this. It doesn't matter what ore it is, low grade or high grade, and it only makes sense that when you suck it all up, it will take longer to grow. The corp I mine with, we stay in one good system all the time, so after all the highest grade ore is down to 400 each, we start sucking all the other ore up until the good stuff grows back in a few days. So, do you want to wait a few days or wait a few weeks? Hope this helps.

I was just about to post this very same question. I've been "sheparding" a belt, leaving a little of the pricier ores intact, and popping as many veldespar roids as possible. Does this make any difference in the belt anymore? Another problem is when other folks show up and pop all the tiny roids. Now, I'm guilty of this myself to an extent. In empire space there are a couple fugitive hideouts that have Kern and Omber fields. Not the most profitable ore but handy, especially nearby. If I show up there, and pop the existing roids, should I expect a week to pass before I get new roids, and if so, how large will they be? Do the roids grow all day or just during downtime?

Even the largest Veld roids take at the most 15 mins to pop from a fully decked out mining BS with a pilot that has the mining skills at high levels.

i believe all roid fields replenish every downtime. the amount of ore left in the roid governs how much ore is added to it. if there is no roid it takes a long time to replenish, this is why theres so many huge veld roids in 0.5 and lower cos no one mines em and they keep growing (to an extent of course)

What are the new roid size limits? It seems that no 2 roids look different now, they are all the same size. No more 16km plagio roids or 2km omber roids.... IMO mining has been nerfed and made even more boring than it already was.
