Basicly travelling in low sec and 0.0 you find yourself more often alone at some stations. I'm just wondering if there will anyone be there to cast a shade on my parade in those stations (and I demand beeing able to walk around in my all so silky transparent nightgown, can't be offensive when no one is in the station).
But seriously, it will be awfully immersion breaking being alone in those stations, I'm wondering if NPC characters will play any role or you imagine WIS will only be used in the major trade hubs (heck talking about AI they could talk about the last visitor that came 5 weeks ago or keep track of buisy days).
Would people want NPC interaction on some basic core level, agent booths (meet em in person for some special missions you're taling about implementing), will the stations be assigned to the corporations who own them. It would be nice to have a room where commodities that the coroporations are buying can be displayed as well as the one they are selling, making it an incentive for pilots who do trade (if there are any).
Just watching the WIS presentation it feels like it relies heavily on player content as it should, but space stations with less player traffic would suffer, stations without people (that are not pod pilots) just doesn't make sense.

Actually it would be immersion braking if HUGE stations had traffic all the time everywhere.
The galaxy only has so many people.

If the stations are heavily populated, and we are attacking the station services, what is it gonna look like from the inside? If I can't dock and see dead and maimed people everywhere with crap on fire, I'll be ****ed.

But still a level of some local traffic as well as station staff, they presumably are located for a reason from RP perspective (trade route for Quafe company) or some thing like that.
About dead maimed people everywhere... it would be cool

I hope there's appropriate variation on station interiors based on sec status. 1.0 would be all shiny, busy, high tech, think The Citadel from Mass Effect. Whereas 0.0 and lowsec stations should be run-down, rusty, ****-holes populated by shady NPC characters who will occasionally try to mug you. ____________________

Nah you are totally wrong. No stations would get built if they weren't properly populated. When was the last time you saw a shopping mall full of glass and steel and marble floors, that averages 6 customers at a time? Never.
The OP has a point, it will be extremely dull in 99% of stations; only mission hubs, jita, and 0.0 alliance headquarters will be worth getting out of your ship for.
Anyway, I recall reading somewhere that the planets have populations like 200 billion; the stations ought to be teeming with life.

As far as I have understood it there will be plenty of NPC traffic inside stations. But it will be on the station levels below you so you will only see them if you look down from a balcony. This is to emphasize your position as a demi-god and common men as ants.
A bit like the NPC traffic we see around our ship when it is docked. ---------------- Mr. Science & Trade Institute

What would be immersion breaking about empty stations? If a station is empty, it would be empty in WIS, too. If it is a busy station and there are lots of people, it'd be a busy station. I mean... what do you want - every place to look like JITA?
The idea of 0.0 outposts where a janky little bar with a quirky bartender and a couple meager facilities in the station are surviving on the odd customer here and there in the middle of nowhere seems appealing to me. There may be very massive station facilities in busy places that have an almost utopian massive-architecture to them, but in far out places, they could and should occasionally feel very run-down and neglected and sparse and vacant.
The difference between staying in the Ritz in the heart of Manhatten or a dilapidated mom-and-pop hotel on the side of a road in the middle of no-where on a long-haul interstate through no-place Wyoming with a population of 5 people.

But never completely empty to a point where I waltz around in my nightgown (31 charisma, hello I demand extra beutiful character with nice curves). The elitist idea is valid from the perspective we are demigods of EvE as pod pilots.

It's ptobobly only going to be someone in the most populated hubs since being in station doesnt necessarily mean being in Ambulation since trading from market probobly wont work (think they said they woiuldnt put market in stations). It will be a good way to spend the time you usually spin your ship, but other then that it wont be any reason for being there, hopefully they can put at least the market in there so the traders can fill up parts of the stations.

Since we're on the topic of WiS,
If I'm out in a station in 0.0 and a red/neut docks, am I able to walk up to them as they get out of their pod and shoot them in the head? Would make me very happy if I could, although I highly doubt it will happen. ____________________

From what I understood at fanfest for technical reasons player owned stations won't have WiS enabled. Not sure about NPC owned ones, though but even were you able to walk around, combat functionality isn't being added as a first implementaion and I doubt it'll be added any time soon if ever.

I think lots of NPC traffic in WiS should be mandatory. Why build a station at all if there is no one interested in going there? There are trillions of people in EVE, billions on the planets. Surely some can afford to live in a station. Not to mention the thousands necessary to keep the station running, who work there, and who work on my ship. Then there's my ship crew that wants to get some off-time while I'm lounging around. They supposedly get a handsome pay and can afford that Raki just as well as I do.
Empty promenades would be severely immersion breaking in my view. -- Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? |
