Although the time is fast approaching for the most anticipated expansion since eve started, the player base is setting itself up for a huge disappointment.
Every other day I look at the forums and see posts talking about what they would like to see. This is great, but when the content is released, they will be in for a shock.
Bare stations, little content, and huge queues for everything.
Just a slight warning, I don't think people should get too excited just yet...it might lead to uproar and forum murmurs...

No matter how empty and pointless Ambulation might turn out at first, if there is some way to annoy everyone else whether corridor blocking or running in circles around them etc..., then I guarantee you at least some of us will getting some fun and satisfaction out of it.

I think TBH no matter how superb WiS/Ambulation turns out people WILL complain! Its in the nature to many it seems, to whine and cry about anything...

This sounds pretty cool. You get a team of friends together and give them roles. Some are tacklers, others DPS and E-war. You can even quicktravel a really fat woman for support and pretend you hot dropped a mothership. Then they have to act like their role demands while imitating the relevant module sounds by their own voice. Think of the fun/annoyance potential it has.
That and it looks like fun, has gambling/minigames, increases immersion and RP potential. And it is not manditory, so party ****ers don't have to bother with it.

first iteration of combat in station .... a bunch of fat echicks
this is what i dont get about the whole ambualtion thing
it not statuary it optional ...if you dont like it you DONT have to do it it is completly up to you... so why moan about it i mean stop bothering us because some of us are looking foward to it.... once ambulation hits eve will fill complete, whole and feel like a proper full filling MMO avarat and everything ( obviously not the titan avatar silly)
so yes it might be a huge flop or it might be popular , of course it going to be empty as it is up to the community to fill itit is up to us BUt no one is forcing you to play ambulation it not like a nerf where it effects everyone this is entirly optional

On the contrary OP, while people have inflated ideas about what ambulation could/would/should do/be, I think they will find that just having a person avatar for the first time in EVE's history is impressive enough in itself.
Hell, they could do 'Walking in solitary identical white boxes' and it would still have a 'whoa, I'm a person now' effect. -

It's true that many people already playing the game, say they don't care or get WiS. Looking at EVE from an outsiders point of view, they don't even know about any balance changes or most new features. Only MMO sites report on them. WiS on the other hand is getting some attention even outside the MMO sites and even they like to report on anything WiS related. Propably because WiS is very visually pleasing and pics focused on sexy asses attract a lot of attention.

I don't know how one can watch the compilation video from Fanfest (the one that has all the cut-scenes from movies) and not be excited. It gives a clear idea of the scope and grit and scale and variety and atmosphere that CCP has envisioned. It may take awhile for it to be fully realized, but it has to make an initial step at some point from which it can continue to build.
The whole "Moving furniture is fun in the Sims!" part of the presentation put me off, but I trust in the overall vision enough not to freak out.
But you know, there was a time when old people were all "who wants cell phones?! those are so stupid! they'll ruin everything!". Same with just about everything else. Holy ****! It's different! It'll be the end of everything!OMGZ!!!1!

You mean other than the realization that statistically a hairy, likely sweaty and smelly, bespeckled man is sitting at the helm.
You mean other than that right?
I am pretty "meh" about the whole thing but I think that is the best attitude to approach with as, unless they royally flub it, I will probably be impressed before it is all over.
On the plus side, it may give me a reason to RP.

I'm not sure how disappointed you should be with something that isn't even released or shown in it final form yet.. but I don't believe anyone said you are going to have to use ambulation. Why don't we just wait and see what they'll get out of all the new tools they are building for WiS and then complain.
All that we saw yet were WORKING prototypes of the game engine that is going to power it. I trust the designer crew of CCP to properly seed the new in-station-worlds with enough npc content, that can eventually be replaced by real player content.
Of course I have no idea how it will really play out, but neither do you. Still even if the first iteration might disappoint, there will be plenty of content over time. Same as it was with the original EVE game, it was pretty barren content wise in the beginning, with only a hand full of ship classes. And look at it now, well I think you get the point :)

First person to read my post...
I am not saying I am not looking forward to it. I am saying that people are talking about it in way to much depth, inflating there expectations. I was just stating the point that it is not going to have all the features they want in it on release.
I am looking forward to it and can't wait...
Think of it like this:- In the weeks leading up to Christmas, a small child knows his getting a present, its a computer games console of some kind. He knows that much, but he doesn't know what sort. He knows its made by Nintendo.
He then starts to think about what it could be/have, inflating his expectations to the point where he is convinced that its the unreleased successor to the "Wii".
Christmas arrives, and he gets a "NES". How does the boy feel...
Thats my point...not that it will be a flop, but the player base (Who are guilty of this fantastic anticipation), will be disappointed...

News flash: Without the players, the space would be empty in EVE.
Okay, there's some content, such as rats - however, without other players you'd basically need to make all your ships yourself etc. (Unless you were content with the newb ship, or the ship you got from the rookie storyline - which didn't exist when the game launched, btw.) It has also been stated that there will be some NPCs inside the stations as well, though like talking to agents, talking to these people will not be needed for the gameplay.

Just repeating how it was described at the roundtable…
Think of it as everyone having a magnetic field around them that repell other players as they come closer. Even if two persons are standing as close together as they can, the field is squishy enough that you can squeeze between them and pop out on the other side (but not stay between them since all three toons will be trying to push the others away). Thus, there will always be space enough to go past other people.

So how many stations are in the game in total? Let's say 1000 for example, then divide the amount of player on server on average based on the population you normally see on the server any given day of the week, it does not take a rocket scientist to know that most stations will be very very empty, people my populate new areas based on a player created feature inside it, lets a say a "Vegas" area where lots of poker rooms "if they create this" are located might collect, I am sure it will grow in some way but it will be thin very very thin in most areas.
That's what I expect, if CCP has a plan to not give every station "walk in stations" Capability then they could control the player population, make it feel more full and have it be more directed, but I doubt they have thought that far since they didn't even have an answer during the dev con about Player Owned Stations and Sov changing, means they either forgot why they did this over the past two years or it was just as poorly planned as the recent combat / speed changes.
All I know is they are drunk idiots that have screwed up PVP that was really fun.

For those of you planning to run interference for pilots trying to get back to their ships - how are you going to stop a bookmark?
That's right, the bookmark system is being planned for stations and will transport pilots instantaneously, no walking required.
But overall I have to agree with what has been said - it's just plain stupid of the OP to even claim that Ambulation will be a disappointment at this point. It's also stupid to claim that Ambulation will be anything right now. Let's burn that bridge when it has been built, shall we?
