Edited by: Jokus Balim on 30/11/2008 19:58:54 Youtube.com -> Keywords "eve" and "scanner" or "scanning". There are some nice videos like the "Goonfleet scanning 101" to tell you the basics.

Many people don't realize that the direction your ship is facing determines the direction of the scan. Align (*thanks CCP for this feature) to the object to scan in that direction.

The direction your CAMERA faces not your ship.

One thing the youtube video there didn't have is the square that appears if you click your ship. Use this square for the 5 degree scan... center objects in the square and hit scan. This makes it much more accurate.

If you want to scan celestial objects, which you want to have marked with that square (like scanning asteroid fields and moons close together, it helps to zoom out a little and position the small black silouette that is your ship within the square (doesn't work so good in cloaked ships).

It works with cloaked ships, you can click on the center of your cloaky ship to get it selected and use the box.
Or you can just hold down the 'Alt' key, this will display another small box at the center of your ship you can use.

i use this all the time, and im one of the most accurate scanners in my corp, and its not even that difficult once you get the hang of it
also, if you press F11 op, while your in space, a mini map should appear on the right side of the screen, and on the window on the bottom if you have your scanner open, it will show a green field in the direction your camera is facing and what you are scanning, also helps as well, just re-press f11 to close it
hope this all helps
oh, and please, spread the word, teach other people how to use the directional scanner as well, it is a very helpful tool, especially in low/ 00 sec space

Military experts call this a troll.
Practice finding people quickly with the scanner, extremely useful in roaming gangs :)

Linkage
I know it's about piracy, but the section on directional scanner is very useful.
