My alliance head lost his 2 Bil carrier at the weekend due to a fleet of dreads etc. It took quite sometime to kill him and while he was getting killed he was calling for help in our blues intel channel. One guy said that my alliance head should give up and just accept it rather than calling for help ?? then he went on to say DON'T FLY WHAT YOU CAN'T AFFORD TO LOSE!!!!! Now he has the money and is already building a new one, and I was a lot more cheesed when I lost my Drake than him losing a Chimera but still.
The point is that Eve has to be pretty ice cold when your allies are making these sort of comments.
Is there no decency amongst players in eve?
Anyone else experience this?

That being said, my last alliance had one of the corp CEO's ratting in a Dread  and was tackled by none other then my current alliance. We came over the region intel channel, and all things aside, IAC and allies had a fleet up and in system within 8 minutes. Luckily the guys Dread was saved, but he did get ridiculed for ratting in a Dread.

He wasn't in the alliance he was an allied blue player that we share a section of low sec with that my Alliance works very hard to help defend.
The guy that lost the ship was laughing about it a couple hours after, he knows it was dumb :P the point remains that at that moment of losing 2 Bil and a lot of work and time building it, there are idiots running around like him to lazy/scared to help and saying that and are allied!

Solo carrier certainly does fall under the "don't fly what you can't afford to lose".
To guarantee a nearly 100% beat-down of the dreads that were sieging your carrier you would have probably needed another carrier or two fit for RR and a couple more dreads than them plus some additional support in case they got some support too, and your solo carrier pilot expected this to be organizeable in the time it takes THEM to kill a carrier ?
Now... if the guys in the vicinity DID have a half-decent force, it would have been a different issue... but one could only guess that they didn't.
What would you expect ? A solo dread coming to his aid ? So he can get killed too ?
Or maybe a couple of battleships so they can just watch as he goes down ?
What would have been the point of even trying to rescue him if it was obvious there could be no rescue with whatever forces were available in the area at the moment ?
You don't put capitals on the field at all without a half-decent preparation.
If he got his carrier out for a solo spin OUTSIDE of a scheduled corp op, with no pre-arranged backup in the area and got caught pants down... well... his loss.
P.S. Besides, it's a carrier. Carriers are like "the new battleship".
P.P.S. 2 bil ? Maybe with the full fit including the fighters, probably not even then. The hull alone isn't even worth 1 bil nowadays... there's a couple for sale at around 800 mil on the market.

Stupid people doing stupid things becoming a target which then becomes bait for helpful friends to try and save. If he ended up solo with his carrier and under attack it's his own fault and as Akita said; unless there's a sizable force nearby to properly defend it, it's no use.
UNLESS that carrier is attacked by just a few, but if they bring in dreads and all that... then you have to have some proper fleet and teamwork. Rushing in only makes for more deaths and tbh; I'd mourn more over helpful people losing their ships than idiots getting caught out alone.

I'm not defending his stupidity just that comment is a little cheeky when a guy is taking it pretty hard.
Imagine you losing that sort of cash and someone 'on your side' saying that!

The only way your even gonna get me to come and assist you if give intel so we can build a fleet to come help and not send more to there deaths
Infact ive told people Screaming HELP ME IM IN BELTXYZ!11!! to shutup and die quietly a few times

We used to congratulate our reds on a job well done when they took out some lone hauler or other idiot who thought that bringing a scout was too much effort... or who failed to think at all. Darwinism at it's best, and there's nothing you can or should do about it.

Depends, there's always people who do stuff without thinking it over or putting in effort to secure their assets. Yime and time again they would move through a pipe that was camped. They never used a scout, they never checked in the intel channel, in fact they never interacted with people anyway. They just leeched 0.0 and tried to move their stuff to high sec.
Why would I bother with those idiots?

Now what good would it serve to leeroy those 5 - 10 ships into a load of dreads to try and save some fool who was being dumb in his carrier, if the dreads that were killing the CEO's carrier were moros's they can pump out about 1000 dps from just drones, if they were other dreads they can still do plenty damage from drones and / or sentries.
here is what happens when people try and blindly leeroy in to save a capital that is tackled, its a vid I made a while back where we tackled a dread in a belt and kept it there for 90 minutes, wave after wave tried to save it, but they werent co-ordinated and just died horribly, in the end the ships they lost trying to save the dread probably equalled the price of the dread, which died anyway
and that is why you dont mindlessly lemming in to save some clown who was trying to solo in a carrier.

Pfft, I lost a Megathron today which was unfitted due to a combination of the mods being a few jumps away and the ship was cheaper by a nice (probably a guy who mined the low ends himself so it was still profit  due to the 70M pricetag) and with my system freezing. I pull the plug, reboot to warp straight into a wt gatecamp - oh snap
Lost an unfitted Mega which is a blip on the epeen scale.
CEO was a bit cheezed off but that's about all that was lost, deal with it and he should only fly what he can afford to lose.
