I talked to j0rt about it at the time. He said they the CONCORD warped in right on top of them without appearing in local and they lost 2 cruisers before hiding...because CCP wasnt able to actually clear the forces they teleported them.

Anyhow we were merely conducting business at the mara/passari gate as usual and ships were coming in that fast you just couldnt kill them all even with the unnerfed weapon mods and a fleet of about 10 cruisers (this was before ANY battleships were owned by players in the game), so we were basically killing hundreds of ships an hour (not an exageration).
Anyway certain, now err gone community type management people went off on a COMPLETE MOAN about m0o on a certain IRC channel (I HAVE TEH LOGS) and said that basically even though we hadnt exploited we should all be banned just for inconviencing other people and because idiots kept petitioning gms about us even though we did nothing wrong (YES ITS OUT FAULT PEOPLE ARE DUMB) anyhow one day we got wind from selected sources of some stupid concord battlefleet coming to wtfpwnz0r us with some concord bships so we were like OMGS ONS and docked, Rev on the other hand was being rev and decided to take them all on single handedly in his stabber, rev died :/ But he was the only one, then the concord ships went away and we went back to camping and killed many more people and stuff.
On a serperate occasion the gms deicded to be rather stupid and just basically shifted half our fleet to some distant 0.0 system which was REALLY IMPOSSIBLY to rp and basically REALLY dumb to do (not like the whole gms in bships thing was much better) unfortunately the gm in question dumped the m0o guys into a system full of miners, who err died alot and then whined alot and stuff GG WP.
That was the whole truth!!!!

Brief History
Back in the days when Sentry Guns weren't in the game, j0rt was scouting around Lonetrek one day and sits at a gate for 30 mins just mincing around while on the phone and notices that due to agent missions and the way the ore was at the time that this gate Mara/Passari was constantly in use (think Yulai before the highway system was altered). He sits and shoots a few people and then lets the rest of m0o know. We arrive in force and over the course of a week or two we destroy all ships coming through (except paid Naps *cough TTI end cough*) IN the course of those weeks thousand *no kidding* of ships were wiped out, hundreds of hate mails arrive and plenty of corpses go into the corp hanger. The forums go mad, GM's and Polaris come and watch but we aren't doing anything wrong as far as they can see. There were three main issues that people had.
1. They were all dying. *Insta bookmarks were not widely in use*
2. One tactic we tried was to leave cargo cans lying in space rather than clearing them up - the theory behind this was that it made picking us out when you warped in difficult - unfortually what it actually did was lag the gate out to hell - this was stopped when a forum post was made by a GM saying it was considered a borderline exploit (though with the amount of traffic clearing the cans was hard to do, especially as we had gate pirates at the time)
3. There was a bug with weapon mods meaning that certain skills with certain combinations were far too high.
A battlefleet was sent against us after a lot of forum traffic, but was defeated with no loss to m0o ships, (though Zap was heavily damaged) and it became clear that the GM's had to do something.
The first solution was the DED forces. It was a great idea imo except it was roleplayed totally wrong. What happened was that CONCORDE was to sent a 6 Battleship fleet to the gate, this was put out on the news, but it was put out 20 mins before it happened. By chance, I Ctd'ed - and spotted the piece 5 mins before it happened and all m0o ships were able to pull back and escape. 6 CONCORDE battleships appear, the group jumps from Mara to Passari and we all dock.
My problem was as normal, that I was drunk. So I take off all mods etc from my Stabber and undock and am just locking a CONCRODE battleship that has followed me to the station and BOOM! he locks me before I lock him and with one shot I am floating in my pod. I warp out and the Battleships give chance and after baiting them in local *thinking they won't pod me* they pod me
These Battleships stay around for the night, we log off and go play something else and are never seen again.
Business resumes, war on the n00bs is declared and the rest is another story.
This is how I saw the events and as such may not be accurate on the part of the GM's etc.

Or to put it eve more succinctly, moo decided to ruin the game experience of hundreds of others for weeks, and whined when CCP decided to do something about it before their game, and their investment, went down the toilet.
All the people involved are damned lucky they weren't permabanned. They should have been, as an example to others that some activities just aren't to be tolerated.

i think i may have been one of the few people that didn't get ganked going thru there (without a NAP).
It was a great performance by m0o, and it showed just how complacent the eve community was at the time. It was very simple - you didn't HAVE to go through that system, but most people were too lazy not to. ----------- "Remember people: Omber is the biggest evil ever created, DO NOT let it get to you!" Edited by: Von Schnopp on 15/07/2004 11:31:30 To sum it up, so much for the free game world dynamics of EVE, "You don't get power, you take it", or what did it say on the CCP commercial ads and on the game box? They forgot to mention, "Don't overdo it though or powers unknown will counteract it".
If it was at all doable, the security forces of EVE should be partially made up by player organized CONCORD governed police forces with special versions of the existent ships, then, we'd be talking!

Originally by: dalman This was very early in the game. Before players had battleships.
Concord was a joke, there were no problem to fight without war declaration in 0.8 systems. Not to mention how it was in 0.1-0.4. At this time, the gate between Mara and Passari was a major chokepoint. Mara was, despite one of the most travelled systems, a 0.4 system. So m0o decided to camp it. And with the lag you were basicly dead before your screen loaded if you warped to the gate. After they had been camping one of the major passages 24/7 for many many days, CCP realized they had to do something.
They made an article in the "ingame news", hinting at what was to come. And then they went there with 4 Concord battleships to force the m0o cruisers away from that system.
That's how I remember it...
Im pretty sure they had a battleship, someone went there in a noobship to take a pic. That picture revealed the horror that was spreading death and destruction, a Dominix (First BS I saw)
But like you said this was waaay back in the early days
Edit: seeing Stavros and Reverend's postI guess that pic provided was bogus.... I do however remeber mOo got the deserved support for the moving of your ships to the 0.0 system. Even mine _______________________________________________

Now that is a kick ass idea. Special task forces could be put together for 'missions', and ships loaned out for the duration of the mission (to keep the rarity value up).

The "shore" story was that the cans were placed for targetting malfunction but the truth was that a seperate window used to pop-up for player targetting. So that one doesn't really fly.
Because in IRC Ywev had said something about lagging out clients and the proof was that there were tons of cans containing a single unit of ammo. Later when people screamed exploit the story abrubtly changed to "confusing the targetting systems" When someone called them on that the story changed to we don't have time to pick up all the NPC cans.
The key to the success of it was m0o's organization (I'll give credit where credit is due), VERY bad lag (yes you could easily be dead before your client loaded the gate), VERY bad foresight by devs in game design.
With all those factors and a bit of beta experience with how the game works it was a disaster waiting to happen.
Fortunately a week prior I had insta-BM'd that route because it was also dead center of a recipricol robotics/livestock route so I never perished in the ensuing mayhem.

This sounds pretty legendary. Granted, had I been there I would have been annoyed to hell, but to all those who participated in that, bravo. To get an intervention on such a scale is pretty impressive.
Now, do the GMs ever do anything like that these days? In my three months of EVE I havent really wintessed anything like it... I mean there is talk of Jovian characters visting Alliance space, some random body parts and the occasional RP battle in Amarr or close by, but all this seems pretty small compared to a system being locked down for weeks.
Heh I'm surprised they didn't demand the system be changed into official m0o territory. (Or did they.. ) "Sovereignty: > m0o corporation" above the system name would be even more impressive even if for a week _______________________________________________
