And how do you use/ apply them? Put them in your head, cargo bay, rig slot? Also what are the side effects, how are they applied, what chance do you have of getting them depending on what skills?
My apologies for the nub question , I saw them in-game come by a few times and now they are mentioned in the 6th alliance tournament. Can they be useful for doing missions, mining, invention?
Thanks, MK.

expected "absolutely nothing!"
I didn't think boosters were very widely used at all
But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started. |

They're hard to make, and thus expensive. This makes them less useful on most ships.
AFAIK, you stick one in your hold, and right click it to use it. Then, you gain 1 benefit and have the stated effect of getting EACH penalty. I.e., they are all independent, you could get 0 penalties, you could get all 4. Remember, some penalties are more pertinent than others. For example, a Torp Raven pilot chewing Crash won't care about, say, his armor HP usually. If he's buffer tanked, he won't care about his Shield Boost penalty either. That leaves two penalties to worry about, and the chance of avoiding both of them is a pretty good 64% with no skills and Standard Boosters.
They're mainly used for PvP, as the cost of using them makes it difficult to justify otherwise. Capital pilots in particular love them, because they work with capital sized mods, something very few things do (Crystal implants do not work on capital mods, nor do armor rigs that affect rep speed/amount).
There are three skills that affect boosters. Biology is the first one, and it increases how long the booster (both benefits and penalties) lasts. It's cheap. The next two reduce the chance and severity of side effects by 5% each level. They're not cheap, and if I could justify the price of those skills to myself, I'd actually USE boosters.
The tank boosters see a lot of use, the others, much less. -------------------- Originally by: Crumplecorn

No, they're pretty cheap to make, cartels keep the prices high. If you can get them at cost they're like 2 mil~

Suprised no one has mentioned this (But I suppose the guy who posted the tribune article link did indirectly) but if I recall Synth level boosters are the only ones legal in high sec space. The more potent ones will have customs shooting at you if they find them in your cargo hold.
So if your a high sec citizen keep that in mind when looking to procure or move such pills. -------------------------------- To borrow a phrase:

Synth boosters are a whopping 3% bonus.
You can only do the "reaction" part in a POS, but the manufacturing part can be done in a 0.0 POS.
You only get one of the drawbacks, unless they somehow changed this recently.

the lowest strength boosters (Synth) have no drawbacks, but a significantly weaker positive effect as a result. They can be pretty handy though.

Okay, I looked at it again. You have a chance to get each drawback, I think. So you can get one or all three.

We use the basic armour rep booster in most capital ops as a small rep bonus to capital reppers can tip the balance.

Even then, it's a pretty rare chance to get one of the side effects, but never let things take the upper hand. Always prepare for the worst

Boosters can also help with setups that need a huge amount of cap for a short period of time, or when you are being neut'ed. One of the downsides is that they take up huge cargo space. -------------------

They are 1m3. We aren't talking about Cap Boosters here, but Combat boosters:

Boosters. They seem a bit unloved because of the short duration, limited benefits, and expense _____________________
