In sub-capitals, 5 is the absolute limit. Carriers and Moms can use more than 5 but they are the only exceptions (to my knowledge). The module that allows additional drone control on works on carriers.

Carriers and motherships can fit a Drone Control Unit which allows an extra drone....also, there was a way to bend game mechanics to control more than five on ordinary ships, not sure if it's been 'fiixed' or not -------------------------------------------------- 'people will always be tempted to wipe their feet on anything with 'welcome' written on it.' |

The only other way I know of is to fleet with someone and have them assign their drones to you. Is this what you're referring to or did I miss something? 5 is the limit for directly controlled drones.

I thought there was a Gallente ship which had a bonus to the number of drones you could use. I am not sure which one. So, if I am right, and you had level V with that class of ship, then you could control 10 drones. This is second hand information though, so you should varify it with someone who knows what they are talking about. Or check the ship bonuses on the Gallente ships to see if you can find the one I speak of.

I'm probably confusing two different things or something....seemed to remember you used to be able to deploy drones and scoop up some others or something.....bandwidth would probably resolve the issue if it existed anyway.....I should learn to pay more attention :) -------------------------------------------------- 'people will always be tempted to wipe their feet on anything with 'welcome' written on it.' |

You might be thinking of the ishkur which has capacity for 5 m3 (aka 1 additional light) per level. It can only launch a max of 5 lights at a time though since it has 25 mb bandwidth.

I believe the issue being refered to is that you could leave a load of drones somewhere in space, launch your own drones, scoop up drones in space to your drone bay, launch those scoop up some more, launch those... etc. As ealier mentioned this was fixed with the bandwith feature.
Regarding the number of drones with sub-capital ships, there is only one ship that can actually have more than 5. The Guardian Vexor. If you buy yourself one of these you will be able to use 10 drones at the same time when you got cruiser lvl5. It is still limited by the 125 bandwith.
HOWEVER The Guardian-Vexor is ultra rare and unbelievably expensive. THere is only very few left (if the last few of them haven't been blown up already...), and the people who own them will probaly not sell.

For noobs like me could you explain why this is? How did people get Guardian-Vexors in the past? Can they no longer be obtained in this way?
Thanks

In the old days (before my time) things were different. Actually they are different after every expansion or big patch. Drone Interfacing didn't give a 20% bonus to drones, but let you launch another drone, up to a number of 10 - and yes, the guardian Vexor was able to launch 15. After they nerfed that (drones were causing massive lag) the Guardian Vexor could still use 10. I've heard there were dozens left, but also that there are only 10 left. They used to be about 12 mill, but of course now they're priceless relics

LOL, found it again :
Guardian-Vexor (Gallente Federation): Non NPC Awarded Faction Ship, awarded to the winning team of an early alliance tournament. This ship has improved thermal resistances on armor, while lossing a small amount of kinetic resistance. It also receives a slight armor hitpoint boost. Its most noteable feature would be that although it gains no additional high slots, it does gain one more turret and a coveted missile launcher hardpoint and vitally it can control up to 10 drones at once - double the number that can be used by any other non-capital ship.

Thanks for taking the time to explain it, even though it makes me sad. I'd looked through the available ships and settled on a Guardian Vexor as a good thing to aim at. Now I know better.
Thanks again, Strom

The Guardian Vexor was awarded as a number of BPCs, I think, it's been longer than I can recall. From those a number of ships were produced, it varies by whom you read, but definitely <100.
Originally they were hot because they had a missile slot. Later they became hot because they could use up to 10 drones. This fact made their worth skyrocket, though much of this could be from ISK influx.
At any rate, they're currently the only sub-cap ship that can use more than 5 drones. This makes them very sought-after. Add to that the fact that there are only a few dozen, at most, and they're even more sought after.
So you're looking at spending as much as a Dread for a cruiser, if you're lucky, more likely a Mom.
Thus most people will keep them as trophies, relaxed in the knowledge that if everything goes completely and mindbogglingly **** up they can recoup their losses in no time and go back to having fun. Since it wasn't easy to get one in the first place, unless they were really lucky, they're not really worrying about this happening, unless they decide to drink enough to kill most people and log into Eve and go looking for trouble.*
* This is one of the reasons BoB has become so powerful today. They got drunk, did something stupid, and despite all logic and the laws of statistics, won. So there's really no downside to the argument.

This WTS post for a Guardian Vexor is about a month old.
I have heard them going as high as 10 billion and seen a WTS add for as high as 20-25 billion. Only the ballsiest players would dare to fly this ship much less in PVP. I say that because of the cost.
If you want to really look at stuff that will make you very Epenvious and drool then check out Entity's collection
