Each learning skill adds one point to the attribute of the same name per level. Training these up can lead to decreased training times for related skills that use the attributes. For Learning, I think for each level it adds .2 points to each skill (not visible), but I am not sure.
At first it may save you a couple hours, but over the long run, you can save days, even weeks of training. My suggestion is that you train these to level 4 at least, level 5 if you are going to be playing this game for at least 6 months, they are well worth it. -------------------------------- CCP can patch away bugs, but they can't patch away stupidity. |

Thank you MooKids! That really has helped me. I'll begin learning then once I get out of the office.

I'm not sure if level 5 will be that great for even 6 months, because to get level 5 from 4 takes about 10 days (I'm looking at instant recall, with learning already at 3 and analytical mind at 3) SO it seems like each level 5 will take 9 or 10 days for that jump, which means about 2 months of training learning skills for the bonus. Level 3 or 4, which will take about 2 days each, should suffice. --------------

Bah, it's never too soon to start. By taking the month to train your learning skills to L5 you'll be getting a head start on everyone who doesn't. It makes a huge difference, and I wish I had taken my whole second month and trained them. I'd probably be ahead at least a Million skillpoints from where I am now.

I think I'm going to train them to level 4, then get a cruiser, then maybe start on 5, but I don't want to play around in a frigate for 2 months, waiting. --------------

It's always tough finding the time to actually train level 5 in your learning skills. Since it seems like you're wasting other skill learning time. People that started at the same time as you will have things like their battleship skills trained up before you, for example.
But your skill point totals will be similar and yours will be increasing at a faster rate than theirs due to your higher learning skills. Eventually your list of skills will outstrip theirs and they will never be able to catch up.
Another good reason to get level 5 learning skills is that when (if) advanced learning skills are introduced, it's pretty reasonable to assume that they'll have a pre-requisite of level 5 in the associated learning skill.
All in all, it took me 5 months from starting the game to get round to getting level 5 in all learning apart from empathy (level 4) between learning other skills. I'm really glad that I've finally done it and I can see the difference in skill training times already.
