It fits into the typical genre of a "role-playing game", even though most players don't seem to actually role-play (which really is true of most role-playing games).
Anyway, what's the point of this thread again?

Actually quite a few are roleplaying, but different to the cliche guy ;).
Just look at caod and the hate between alliances etc., thats more honest rping then the weird stuff you see in fantasy games.

If you're making a serious point then you're thinking too much about this - MMORPG is just a genre, like FPS or RTS - and it means nothing

Look at COAD. I'd say there's a lot of roleplaying going on there, wouldn't you? It's just that it's all player-generated storylines & settings.
Or perhaps you think these people are really believing what they say...?

EVE has always been a RP game, just because you don't RP, or most of the peolpe don't RP, and there's no RP fluff...doesn't mean it's not RP.
EVE server, in it's singular form, is a PVPRP server

Because I was reading how people say that people in rp corps are nerds and tbh that is my opinion too .

Better not voice that, or otherwise assault people, for RP'ing as i believe it's a bannable offense to harass someone for RP'ing in an RP game.

Eve has always been a RP game.
You pick a race, profession, tweak your attributes and pick your starter skills. Then you train your skills, improve your attributes as you become more experienced. And as you earn money you upgrade your equipment.
Now take the above and apply it in any RPG out there even that other game and you will see it fits perfectly. It is just a different setting.
As many people said the vast majority of people here do not role play, they are just powergaming.

Everybody is role-playing here. Some people plays miners, other people plays pirates, soldiers, CEOs, etc.
And everybody role-play a pod pilot. Get used to it, NERDS!

I don't think it's possible to not roleplay in eve. your just acting like you would normally if you had a spaceship. It's a game, and you play the role of a pilot. Even if to you that means barking at noobs and killing people. well I guess that's the kind of person you would be if life was like a game:P
Because in fact we like our characters, can not die. we are immortals. lol, it's true not once have I really died while playing eve :P
or like mining, it's like a real mindless job, the kind where you alt tab away from work and look up dumb youtube videos.

Exactly... some of us choose not to roleplay the storyline (like CVA and others like to do) but we're all stuck with a little bit, no matter what.
I RP an Amarr hating pirate... but everyone is fair game

We all role play in EVE, in one way or another.
Role playing dosen't just mean speaking as a fictional character. Most of us specialise in specific areas in eve, because we like to play out those roles. In fact that's the principle behind all virtual worlds and probably the reason why many of us choose a game like EVE over WoW. We prefer to be blowing stuff up in pretend space-land, than dancing around with bizarre fantasy creatures. |

In the beginning there was Reality, and there was Fantasy.
Then there came Virtual Reality.
Stuff was really happening in a virtual world. It was not Real because it all occurred in a computer generated model. But it was not Fantasy either, because it really happened. It was not made up. It was not contrived. It was the consequence of multiple sentient minds interacting.
EVE is Virtual Reality unscripted. EVE has a history which was not written by the Developers, but was rather lived by the participants. While there is a script so to speak that people may choose to follow in Empire space, the game does not restrict you to following it, and the conflicts in 0.0 have evolved their own stories. The big bosses at the higher levels of this game are themselves players, and the computer controls only the field on which we compete. |
