He's talking about specific set of implants/hardwires that augment the ship you're flying. E.g. Hurricane and Drake would be better off having 2 different clones(HG slaves, med proj dmg+all turrets damage+tracking, etc for Hurricane and PG+HAM dmg+Missile ROF+Shield hardwires for Drake). Allows you to get the most out of the ship you're flying.
Yes, for example I personaly use the +5% Damage to Large Hybrid Turrets on one for the Mega and Hype while I perfere +5% Armor on the same slot if I use Cruisers/HACs as well as some cheap Speed Implants(like Zors custom Mindlink) because speed does matters here abit more to catch your Target. I personaly donŠt switch clones this often, since im mostly flying Gank fitted BS both solo and gangs(because this is mostly this I focused with my Skills) and mostly only Turred focused Gallente Ships.
Many Implant Slots offer general benifits while others are for more special benifts acording to the Implant you put in.
For example for Slot 9 you can go with more Turret Damage, Turret ROF, more Rep Amount or a specilized EW upgrade. Since I donŠt use EW this much it comes down to tanking or DPS and since I use Gank fits mostly a easy decision.
Slot 10 on the other hand, requires the correct Implant for the Large Turret Group but also offers the Armor HP Amount and lower CPU fitting for Turrets. If you now fly multiple races BS a specialized Implant would be questionable since the Bonus is only for one kind of Turret and the lower CPU need of the Turrets isnŠt needet on any Ship while the static HP Boost to Armor would be next to pointless if you use Shield Tank.
You see if you are flying a lot of ships the decision isnŠt easy and you need multiple clones if you are not only heavy speced into just one race and shiptype. So if you want to take a advantage of the Implants and want to avoid having multipe Millions of Implants in your Clone that arnŠt usefull for the ship you fly more specilized Clones are the best solution.

Lots of good advice, but step one is always the same:
Get out there... today. What are you waiting for? Fight. Kill. Die. Learn.
Don't let it intimidate you, and don't let a loss bother you. With each loss, learn what went wrong, update your clone and insurance, get in the next ship and go again.
As good as the advice here is, nothing will kick-start your PvP education like a boot to the ass into low-sec. Posts on forums are incapable of conveying the required information hard experience provides.
Good luck. Have fun. Kill me if you can.

I think the most important thing is target selection. You can rarely setup a ship to take on all comers (and if you can expect a nerf). Instead of trying to do that setup to dominate a certain range of ships and focus on hunting them, while avoiding the guys who will give you trouble. This will net you the high kill vs death ratio you will need to minimise downtime to recover isk. It will also allow you to punch above your weight as far as skill points and pimp fittings/clones are concerned.
Also if you are low on skill points 0.0 is normally a bit better for frigate sized stuff than lowsec. No gate guns, lots of guys in intys/AFs or poorly fitted ratting BS's and you probably havent pimped your clone yet.

Great thread.
One part of solo PVP that I haven't seen discussed here is relative to FW. Capturing plexes presents alot of opportunities for solo PVP. While many of the same things apply to the rest of solo PVP, there is one notable difference. Inside plexes, there is enough room for an opponent to size you up before engaging. Because of the distances involved inside a plex, there isn't any possibility for pounce/immobilize/shoot/win. This means the opponent has to beleive he will win. Thus comes the art of looking beatable. Hard to do in alot of ships, but pretty easy in a Cormorant.
If you like solo PVP, join FW. You won't spend nearly as much time having to look for targets!
