Edited by: Joshua Calvert on 14/07/2004 22:02:08 Tempest just happens to suffer the most from the current state of shield-tanking.
Tempests lo-slots are much more valuable than the lo-slots of other lvl2 BS, I feel, because you really need to get the rof down or the dmg up and that takes up lo-slots.
In effect, I don't think the Tempest is wrong.
It's shield-tanking thats wrong.
Having said that, you guys all have Min BS 5 and probably know more about Tempests than me even though my gunnery supports are at 5 too.

I still firmly believe the Tempest is an awesome ship but, like all other ships reliant on shield-tanking, the cap relay has hit it hard.
There's nothing wrong with its dmg output.

I think it's just a case of the projectiles/minmatar ships having their turn at the nerf end of the scale.
This isn't likely to change until after Shiva (unless the tech II guns/ammo change things around).

Tempest doesn't need an extra turret and nor does it need more powergrid.
It just happens to have been hit hardest by the CPR change.
The Raven would've been just as bad but, fortuntely, missiles were given a boost which balanced it out.
As it is, Ravens are much weaker than they used to be defensively, at least.

Perhaps a reduction in signature radius and a boost in agility would be useful?
That way Tempests fit into their description as raiders/plunderer's while being harder to lock, with a smaller tracking radius, and an added bonus of mwd usage (via the agility boost)?

Edited by: Joshua Calvert on 29/07/2004 08:52:59 Projectiles aren't meant to have good tracking simply because they're meant to be long-range.
Long-range requires less tracking ability, aye?
Unfortunately, 1400mm's don't have long-range optimals/falloffs to match their poor tracking so something needs to be done. The changes to projectile long-range ammo helped but perhaps the optimals and falloffs need a boost. Tracking certainly won't fix it.
I refuse to believe Tempests cannot tank because you have the lo-slots available to armour-tank and mid-slots to fit cap rechargers/cap injectors.
Most of you have said you're fitting 6 1400mm's and cannot tank.....why haven't you tried fitting 4 1400mm's and 4 siege launchers?
This leaves you with plenty of spare grid.

Quote: -New Tracking formula hurts Large Proj the most

The tracking changes affect all turrets equally - projectiles turrets weren't stealth nerfed.

Making it faster won't help it's tracking though?

Originally by: ProphetGuru I have tried a myriad of setups since our latest patch. The patch certainly improved performance of projectiles quite a bit, and that is good.
I guess my beef at the moment, is the lack of tanking ability with the tempest.
His original post said he thought the projectiles performed much better.
How has that suddenly changed through the course of this thread?

Quote: As an experience combat pilot, who has used a megathron to blow up all battleships, including many ravens, and who has used a raven to blow up all battleships, including many megathrons, I can just say that I find it hard to understand that the raven is such a "flavor of the month".
Too true.

Quote: I think you're not realising that turrets miss 40% of the time. Torpedo's never miss unless they are destroyed.
Turrets insta-hit and lotsa peope use defenders/smartbombs so that statement is a bit misleading.

Corp. mate says he's been hitting cruisers at 20k very regularly the last 2 days.....
Don't know if he's changed his setup or something has been done serverside?
