"You took what someone else had done and then you claimed it as your own. You didn't earn the knowledge for yourself, so you have not earnt the respect that would be rightfully yours.
You have risen from the shoulders of labour to accomplish something as fast as you could without the noble tradition of your own blood sweat and tears. You now wear a fools grin and every step you take is a step you did not earn"
I have been playing this game for almost a year. I had never heard of it until a mate introduced me too it. I admit, It did take me a while to get into it, you know, the steap learning curves, painful lessons, often extreme frustration. But what a game!!
I feel I have earnt my place in the universe, as small as it may be, and the ever occuring, rediculous amount of times I run into a fire fight with no ammo.
But it has been tarnished. Deflated I am. As the year that has passed - means nothing, when those you wanted to share the game with, have broken all the rules. This game truly does reflect real life. There are those who want everything now, instantly, pay any price, but must have it - to get ahead. So next time you are in 0.0 and you pop me, know you have popped someone who has earnt his place. And to those who begin playing this game and buy a character with illegal isk, there is karma in the eve universe and I hope I'm there when it kicks you in the arse.

Take solace in the fact that the majority of buy it now people don't play long.
Even those older players that I knew who turned to the dark side of isk trading have packed it in. It's removed all their goals so there isn't any need to play.
Plus you can pretty much tell who has bought their way ahead as soon as they say something. I don't understand why you would pay shed loads of money not to play?

Dont put too much attention to how many sp someone has, eve is all about playerskill, which is not only killing someone, but also avoiding being killed, making money etc. etc. -

^^ This, buying shedloads of ISK so you can buy a high SP character when you have little or no experience of EVE is a recipe for fail. SP's do not equal expereince IMHO and thinking it does only leads to the comedy KM's you see regularly paraded in C&P.

In my first alliance there was someone that joined up with fleet that I had not seen before. I checked them out and they were a 2005 player. They then asked a facepalm question and I was like WTF this guy can not be for real. I decided he was either a noob that had bought the pilot or someone spying and acting like he was a noob that had bought a pilot.
Either way I agree with your sentiment.

Well, to be honest, even i have some unanswered questions about EVE so it IS possible for a vet to ask "silly" questions.
I do hate players who call you a noob, isk bought or some such, simply for asking about some aspect of the game I haven't touched in 5 years. Like for example, probing, wouldn't know one thing about it. Or R&D. and hell, the aggression system of EVE still gives me a headache

I don't blame the seller the idiot is the one that buys it. What happened if CCP went bankrupt tomorrow you've spent 2k on thin air. No matter how much money you have its still a waste. /start sig I love old characters that post 'I've beeen playing the game four years' when I know their account has been sold on. /end sig |

Some interesting comments - It is true this game has created such a demand. I can see why people go out of there way to buy into it - especially when you start playing and feel you are so far behind.
It is a trap alright - almost addictive hey :)
but there has to be some way - or a system where it has to be verified that you own the money before you purchase a character - or is this just far fetched.
On the flip side - and I dare not say it - isn't all this good for eve, the little cottage industy it spawned and getting people hooked like on alcohol or cigs - keep em coming back - we will put a nasty picture on the cigarette pack just like ccp yell it encourages fruad and blah blah blah - is it really truth or just token hype.

I heard 2000Ç is current ebay price for a titan&a char to pilot it On the other hand guy who told me this is full of crap and might be pulling numbers out of his ass. Still, 10000Ç can certainly get you the same without breaking eula. _____________ I don't care what is nerfed, as long as it's not my "undock" button. |

There's a problem with people buying characters with real life money, or isk bought with real life money in order to start from a position of power. These idiots ultimately fail anyway because to be truly successful at Eve, you need to build up a social network to get anything of value done.
That explains why many players who buy their way in don't last long. Eve is not an instant gratification type of game.

No hard earnt cash is very respectable. It's just when new players buy billions of isk to get hight skilled characters - I am just seeing how it ruins the game.

Of course not. He was referring to people who buy their way up the ladder who have never played the game from scratch.

Edited by: TheEndofTheWorld on 08/12/2008 14:49:20 Gee, now, we should talk about GTCs. They are essential the same thing as ebaying. You buy isk with your real money.
GTCs make it possible to keep buying isk 100% safe, this means that even the committed types who have played for years can safely buy isk at any time.
GTCs are just as bad in terms of breaking immersion/balance/whatever.
And character buying...

Old players buying isk with gtcs ruins the game, too.
