Ive reinstalled ubuntu 8.10 ultimate 2.0 and wine 1.1.10. Done all the wine and ubuntu things i did before like adding the arial font Done the gedit ~/.wine/user.reg and added -> [Software\\Wine\\Direct3D] 1225053124 "DirectDrawRenderer"="opengl" "OffscreenRenderingMode"="fbo" "PixelShaderMode"="enabled" "VertexShaderMode"="hardware" Done the -> wine explorer /desktop=eve1,800x600 "C:\\Program Files\\CCP\\EVE\\eve.exe
But now it wont run anymore? All i get is a black screen and nothing. The Cursor is there but nothing else. Solutions please :)

hm I have also a problem with a "reinstall".
I copied my ~/.wine/user.reg install( similar entries to Xenome ). And installed wine 1.1.10.
I also have shiny new nvidia drivers: x86_64.177.82
Many other games work fine. And Eve used to worked fine...
... same problem ?

Just Found it ....
open winecfg -> goto Grafik -> Uncheck Direct3D PixelShader
this worked at least for me ... ( I am quite sure this option is new. At least I do not remember seeing it before... So perhaps it will help you too )

I confirm that this does indeed work. However, this also forces eve to run in classic mode. AFAIK this option was allowing to use premium content. -------------------------------- No sig, is a sig as well. |

Edited by: Sevarus James on 09/12/2008 01:39:41 After my first upgrade to 1.1.10 I too had the same issues as the OP. After beating things in the game-room/office, I backed up my settings/cache folder and wiped wine and eve (completely). Reinstalled wine first, changed the fonts directory fonts.old added the simlink to the msstcorefonts directory in its place. Did the edit to add the direct3d stuff to user.reg and then reinstalled EVE from scratch and then readded the cache/settings folder after first run. And it all worked. I'm still at a loss as to WHY it borked up so badly after the 1.1.10 update, but......shrugs.
I'm using ubuntu 8.10, nvidia 8800gts, and I moved up to the new nvidia beta drivers (180.11) which seem to have more snap to them, as well as some new video overlay acceleration features.
As an added fyi, the only way to connect to the test server (at least for me now) is to change prefs.ini to point to the server. Adding the slash:server command crashes the client now.

Worked for me too, and I confirm classic-only mode problem. It seems that PixelShaders must be enabled to run premium graphics.

turning off the pixel shader does work, and it does revert to classic client

Edited by: Sevarus James on 15/12/2008 20:09:58 I solved my .10 woes by........backing down to 1.1.9. All of the weirdness goes away.
Remember, a newer version of wine does NOT ALWAYS equal a BETTER version of wine. Regressions and bugs do creep into the picture from time to time. Make sure to bug report (to wine/crossover) if possible when odd stuff happens. The reason its important is that Crossover (which is the primary sponsor of wine) OFFICIALLY supports EVE in their list of games. -just fyi there.
