With all the talk at FanFest 2012 about looking into the ships specs and designs,
I hope to god they fully re-design all mining barges i for one are sick of the way they look and that pokect of fire which is vented at each side ? what the {:@~: is all that bout ,

How about a actial Capital class mineing barge that can fit 4 or 5 strip miners,
would save the hassel of makeing 3 new types of barge. |

or a tek III mining barge bigger stronger etc.. but not a cap,
if they do a cap mining barge they will just use the orca with bouns for strip miners |

With Hulkageddon coming, it may be wise to return to mining BS's like an Apoc or Rokh.
If you recall, the Talos was supposedly developed by ORE.

How about an ORE Battleship? 6 turret hardpoints, 5 meds, 5 lows - the Shield HP of an Armageddon, and the Armor HP of a Scorpion. The capacitor of a Typhoon, 50 m3 drone bay, and a 2000 m3 cargobay.
No gun bonuses, but a 20% bonus per level to mining laser amount (think a really big Navitas/Bantam/Tormentor/etc), maybe a bonus to cargo capaity/hull HP/tractor beams or something like that as well.
Basically, a BS hull dedicated to mining that can tank better than your average mining barge.
(maybe give it 8 highs, 2 launcher hardpoints and 6 turret hardpoints, so you could fit 6 mining lasers [mining as much as 12 at lvl 5] and still fit 2 launchers for defense)
- It wouldn't outmine a covetor, and would cost much more than a covetor (have it cost about as much as a tier 2 BS) - but it would be much more "survivable" than a covetor, and could actually be fit to fight (even if it should always lose 1v1 to any other PvP fit BS)
Of course, you could also fit it out with guns, put a couple alongside Hulks and an Orca, and try and bait some pirates into attacking the mining operation with less force than needed.
Give the Noctis 8 turret hardpoints and enough CPU to run 8 Miner II's, it is an ORE vessel after all (and would make it more versatile, many ships have a role they are best at, but can be used other ways, the Noctis is useless for any other role.
Now players can have a decent mining ship without doing the training dedicated towards mining barges or BS's
And... again, you could fit it with turrets and stick it next to a mining operation, and have the mining operation be better defended than it appears.. |

i think that a lot of miners often forget how the market works, if you're given a new ship that will mine loads of minerals, then the prices on minerals will drop.
Which will lead to a new wave of people asking for better ships. |

I dont want a better yeild on my new mining ship, i want a better tank... a Hulk is so easy to turn into fireworks its hardly worth flying... |

How about no. Thats just asking to lose something 5x more than a hulk for barely noticeable gains.

Would like Rorqual to be re-identified as the Mining Barge.
- Would have Jump-Portal.
- Would have a Sonic Blast to buff mining fleets somehow.

We just need some kind of cap industrial that gives bonuses for mining ships only, gang bonus within 100km or in system. Let's say 3000of shield hp and armor + stuckable with normal gang bonuses for your tank |

Then use a covetor, my hulk fit mines 1650 m3/minute and my covetor mines 1608 m3/minute.
the difference really isnt that big |
