Edited by: Jeune on 09/12/2008 04:56:53 I'm having an issue with the Orca and mining barges/exhumers. If the Orca is set for booster and warps away the barges and exhumers yield is lowered by 1000m3 per cycle per laser. I.e. - When the Orca warps out a Retriever produces 0 ice for that cycle and a Mackinaw only produces 2 ice versus the 4 it should.
Has anyone else experienced this?

Edit: Just to clarify... This is not about mining bonuses such as Cap Use, Cycle Time or Mining Laser Range. This is only referring to the yield per cycle of the Ice Harvesters which should be 1k m3 (Barge) or 2k m3 (Exhumer). |

If anyone can duplicate this please submit a bug report. The more Info CCP has the better to resolve the issue.
Reproduction Steps: Have the following in a fleet in an ice belt. Orca (Squad Booster) Mackinaw (Squad Member) Retriever (Squad Member)
Start a cycle on the harvesters. Turn off the Orca's Mining Foreman Links before the harvester cycle ends. View the ice harvested by the Mackinaw and Retriever. Should be zero for Retriever and two for Mackinaw .
Orca Fitting (in case you need specifics) High: Small Tractor Beam, Link - Laser Optimization, Link - Mining Laser Field Enhancement. Med: CN Large Shield Booster, Survey Scanner II, CN Boost Amp, CN Invuln. Low: 2x Expanded Cargohold II. Rigs: 2x Cargohold Opt I, CCC I.
I don't know if it matters what ships are mining... or even if it has to be an Orca boosting with the links. I was incorrect in my previous post. The Orca doesn't have to warp off. All it has to do is have the Links off when the harvester cycle ends. Anyone running large ice harvesting ops may run into this (unless it's just me). Due to varied ships and skills all members of the squad can't be in sync.
For those of you that would like to reply "Why would you want to turn off your Mining Links???" the answer is: I don't, but when you warp they go inactive and when docked... well, duh.

I've seen this too. I was just composing a bug report to submit if tonight's patch doesn't fix it.
Why I think it is happening: The Ice Harvesters aren't running long enough to get a full load when the bonus is gone, so they only drop a partial load.
Proposed Solutions: Either (1) give us a full cycle of the bonus even if the bonus is no longer valid when the cycle completes, or (2) make the harvesters keep running for the longer time when they see that they haven't been running long enough.
Specific example: Without an Orca giving me a bonus, my Ice Harvester II's on my Mackinaw cycle every 301.22 seconds and drop 2 cubes of ice each. If I turn off the harvesters just after half a cycle, they drop 1 cube of ice each. So, they drop 1 cube of ice for each 150.61 seconds that they run.
(Sometimes they get stuck and don't drop their ice any more until they are manually stopped, at which point they drop 1 cube for each 150.61 seconds that they did run, up to the size of my cargo bay. Separate bug.)
Being boosted by my friend with an Orca and Mining Foreman Links reduces the cycle time on the Ice Harvester II's so they will cycle every 223.28 seconds (111.64 seconds per cube).
I think the harvester checks how long to run the cycle time at the start of each new cycle. With the Orca's boost, it starts a cycle for 223.28 seconds. At the end of the cycle (or sooner if you turn it off by hand), it checks how long it has run and drops the appropriate amount of ice. If the bonus is still active at the end of the 223.28 second cycle, 2 cubes are dropped. If the bonus is not active at the end of the cycle, only 1 cube drops because the harvester hasn't run long enough for a full un-boosted cycle.
The boost doesn't even have to be active the entire cycle: if the Orca was boosting at the start and end of the cycle, you get the full bonus.
Possible solutions are to either (1) cut us some slack and only require the boost to be valid at the start of the cycle, or (2) have the harvesters keep running for the needed time if they see that they have stopped too soon (run the extra 77.94 seconds to make a full 301.22 second cycle in this example).
A little wordy, but I think you get the idea. ----- I'm a collector! Want to trade? See my Collection List and contact me. |

I have experience similar bug. I generally run several people in a fleet for Ice ops and everyonce in a while a cycle will only produce 1 block that cycle.
The interesting thing is that it will do that for every mackinaw in the fleet for that cycle. It is the weirdest thing.
In a 2 hour op it happens 2-3 times.

Thanks to those that have taken the time and effort to duplicate this and/or send in a bug report. If anyone else has seen this please let CCP know. Per their request, even if it's a known bug, send in a bug report. The more info the better.
On a somewhat related note... I submitted a bug report the night of my original post, however I have a question about that. When I look under My Bug Reports there is nothing listed. After filing the report I received a Report ID, but so far it doesn't show and I can't seem to locate a report by ID. Hope others have had better luck with this.

Got a reply to my bug report. They closed it and said that it is an intended game feature, and not a bug.
Sounds like we need to move this to Features and Ideas Discussion? ----- I'm a collector! Want to trade? See my Collection List and contact me. |
