Hello Everyone,
I am interested in setting up a POS in low sec. The goal is to make simple and complex reactions. How feasible is it to manage and run the POS alone? I realize that its always easier with more people, but can it be done by yourself?
Thanks

Yes, it can be done on your own. I ran the exact same type of setup for a few months, but eventually got burned out. If you happen to have a jump freighter, you'll be a lot better off than I was, otherwise you're gonna be making lots and lots of trips in your indy of choice- that being why I eventually burned out like most 1-man POS owners and took it down. It's a LOT of work on your own, and if you can't afford to lose it you'll probably be a bit paranoid about it getting popped unless you have lots of friends with big ships.
I'd advise putting an alt that can fly an industrial and can anchor modules in the POS to take care of it.

It is, of course, possible, but you spend a lot of time and take big risks for tiny profits. Last time I've calculated profits from reactions, you need at least 4 large poses to have a measurable income from them, with logistics taking a lot of time every week or so. Two days of mission running will bring you more profit than a pos running reactions for a month. Also, you can get unlucky and get some bored group of players stumble upon your pos, in which case you'll get into the red big time.

Edited by: Kazuo Ishiguro on 10/12/2008 12:26:11 Management: not too bad, requires regular fuelling and materials in/out. As noted above, much easier with a JF, but you'll want a scout. Defence: impossible. Be prepared to move out your entire operation at a day's notice (or however much time your strontium supply allows). --- Can't afford that BPO? You also have to keep in mind defending the pos in lowsec. Sure you can take a gamble that it will be left alone (and many have taken the gamble and it has worked out for them), but it is still a gamble that your pos will be left alone.
Personally I wouldn't want that much out there in lowsec that I couldn't properly defend.

Thanks to all that responded.
Your experiences make my decision much easier. (I think i will look for another income source)

Edited by: Lord Fitz on 10/12/2008 16:32:07 I ran 32 POS's (half large) across 3 regions by myself. One is easily doable. ;)
(32 will challenge your sanity however).
The only time you 'need' other people is if you go away or to aid in defense if it is attacked, I had those people available ;)
It's worth mentioning that all but one of the POS's I ran also reacted or moon mined, it did however require around 6 freighter movements per month (usually all done once a month).

Yes. However, make sure you: - Have a lot of time and money - Have at least two accounts - Spend a large amount of time researching a rarely used low sec system so that you're not noticed - Always post on an alt, and NEVER **** anyone off (this is probably the most important one) - Make a standing "contract" with a mercenary corp to defend your POS when necessary - - SUPERIOR SYSTEMS: BPO sales, research, copying, and delivery! |
