Any point in getting CS4?
CS3 is quite a bit cheaper.
CS4
CS3
I like having new stuff though. The latest verion would feel so much sexier, even if it's not THAT much better *goes to look up CS4....*

The price of CS4 (ú1400)= 35.1 blow jobs off semi decent hoes.
If you get the CS3, you will have saved the cash for 12.8 blow jobs, if you lower your standards you could achieve over 20.
It's a question of gobblemantics really.

There is no point in going for Cs4 over 3 unless you know for a fact that you are going to get something out of any of the additions and improvements that it has in it. Of course, you probably won't, because you didn't know whether you should go for one or the other, so you may as well just go for the cheaper option ;/

Edited by: NightmareX on 10/12/2008 16:55:02 I'll use Adobe Flash CS4 Professional, Adobe Dreamweaver CS4, Adobe Photoshop CS4 (64-bit version) and Adobe Premiere CS4.
And i have no problems with them. I'll use them because they have a more easier UI and you can use your GPU power to make Flash and movies with.
Also all of the graphic and animations / movies are handled by the graphic card.
Adobe CS4 also have support for Adobe Flash 10. Something that Adobe CS3 doesn't have i think.
So if you want those things, then Adobe CS4 is a good choice to use.

I'm an honest man. I think the most dishonest thing I've ever done is used pirated Adobe CS3.
But now I've bought myself a ton of professional video making gear - I want the official software licence so I can go into business and make lots of monies.

In that case, grab CS4 then. Whilst it hasnt been on my system yet, spending quite some time with it over the previous weekend, I can safely say its pretty good. Stability is a ***** though, but not as bad as CS2. CS3 is more stable however.
CS4 is still new, and likely to have tons of auto-patches by the time you read this, so stability may be a non-issue by the time you get into it.
BTW, I love what they did to Illustrator CS4. 3D model imports ftw!

Another issue I face, is things like Illustrator..... I couldn't even tell you what that does. Things I know I will be using...
Premiere. After Effects. Encore. Photoshop.
- But buying them separately is almost pointless, due to the costs of things. I think. I briefly looked at After Effects at uni, but haven't touched it since. The 'version' of Encore I have on my comp refuses to load (serves me right for having a 'version' of it) Photoshop I've never gotten round to mastering. I can just about manage 'The GIMP' - which is similar afaik, but I just got frustrated with Photoshop when I couldn't master the controls or understand the tools very well and things were happening that I didn't want to happen, lol. So really, the only thing I can use with any degree of thingy-whatsit, is Premiere. But Encore is better than 'Nero: Burning ROM', surely? And After Effects is something that just HAS to be had, right?
So Production Premium CS4 it is, right? Right??
Please... help.... lol.

I saw an article somewhere this week that stated that Adobe are laying off a lot of staff. The article didn't really say why but the only reason you really get rid of staff is to decrease expenses. The problem as I see it is that their software is so ridiculously expensive that people would rather pirate. If they reduced the price of their software more people would buy it rather than torrent it.

If you're after all the programs, it is much cheaper to buy them as a package than individually. Production Premium CS4 comes with the above, illustrator and audition IIRC.
Premiere Pro - For editting videos After Effects - For adding special FX to videos Audition - For editting and otherwise playing with audio files (eg. gain, reverb, echo, pitch, tempo, etc, etc) Illustrator - This is basically a drawing program for creating vector-based artwork. You might use it to create DVD covers and case sleeves, posters, flyers, etc. Photoshop - The standard in image editting. Encore - DVD Authoring. This is nothing like Nero...with Encore you can actually put together an entire DVD, including multiple videos, videos with multiple audio tracks, still/moving menus, etc. Nero is simply a burning programs for writing discs (though I think the new versions include some kinda authoring program).
Premiere Pro does have some basic effects built in to it, so unless you're doing something particularly FX heavy, you'll rarely use After Effects. It also has plenty of transitions and the most common audio/video effects and tools. If you're serious about video editting, I understand Final Cut Pro (only on Mac though) is THE standard, but we use Premiere here at school for our Media courses and CS2 on are pretty good programs. Feel free to ask any specifics. -------------

But the real masters always strive to be more efficient :P I switched to CS4 when it came out, and now I can't live without the new drag and resize brush and drag-change hardness on brushes..
Though my CS4 is really sluggish and freezes all the time for 30-60sec which makes me swear out loud.. Something is wrong with my GFX Driver, gonna re-install och fix the drivers later though and see if that fixes it..

I've use Protools before, and you get lots of tracks and can move stuff to different tracks - just like the audio/video tracks in premiere. so why can't you have multiple tracks of audio in... wait a minute - I think I'm thinking of soundbooth.
