Finally had it happen - warp into a roid belt and by the time my screen had finally updated i was in the middle of a formation of 5 serp sentinals who had already webbed and warp scrambled me. Was a long fight but finally died after taking two of them with me. Lost my cruiser to lag

Very common problem. Has happened to me. CCP needs to drop warping ships far from enemies if they can't get the load time down below death time.

You are certainly not alone. I too have come out of unbelievably long lag to find myself in a pod.
The worst thing is you know it is happening and there is nothing you can do but hope you will survive the flyby without getting destroyed.
I have taken to trying to set my shield boosters to auto repeat just before I drop out of warp. Not that it saved me.
This is another argument for allowing us to set the distance from the target we want to drop out of warp. Although how that affects CCPs game structure based on causality bubbles I do not know. Who are you to tell me to question authority? |

This bug is vital to eve, stimulating ship and equipment demand. Dont count on ccp to fix it any time soon.

That is the stupidest thing I ever heard. If they are relying on this bug to help the market, they need to get out of the MMO buisness.

I have noticed that you only get this lag after long playing without restarting was hunting pirate cruiser last night and had major lag when entering belt so we went to a planet restarted the game and the belt was opened again within a second. ______________________ I am just a crazy cow |

Even more annoying than this, is when some spammer sends you a Windows Messenger message just as you are warping into a field with your shiny new ship. WinXP naturally decides that reading spam messages is much more important than playing Eve, so when you eventually manage to switch the main process back you are left with a small, flashing egg.

I've actually noticed just the opposite. I generally get really severe lag the first time I've entered a new belt after restarting/rebooting, or if I've spent a long time moving between various stations and such without entering a belt. Seems that a lot of the lag is caused by texture loading.
But then, I've never experienced any memory leak type symptoms playing EVE.. it actually seems to run better the long I play it.. I think my record is 12 hours or so without a relog.

This game has a pretty bad memory leak :( clearing the cache every hour or so helps me. I guess programs that can er, flush? Your memory will help too.

This kind of lag is generally a hardware issue involving : your RAM, the memory of your video card and also your internet connection speed.
i wouldn't call that a bug. The only way to avoid this for CCP would be to have all the info loading in your comp each time you enter a solar system (like zoning in EQ for those who know this game). In this case, jumping would take several minutes and everybody would yell at CCP :)
So loading info when you enter the belt is certainly the best way to go and the lag experienced when doing so mainly depends on your comp.

LAST thing that should be done when entering new environments (warping to a new location) is placing the players ship in the environment and/or making NPC or players aware of it. This way lag will cause the least amount of problems. Stellar Products and Quality Resources ticker: SPQR established 6-03

It could be hardware but since I have a 2M cable link 1.5 gig very fast ram a 128M Geforce 4 and a 2.2 gig proc I some how dont think so. Have run the log prog and it seems when I lag there are a lot of yellow warning messages in the log. The yellow messages stop then bing screen back - Will have to send my latest log to devs.
PS Have checked all my drivers etc (Work in IT for 15 years doing support so PC runs like a dream with no probs apart from EVE)
If EVE wasnt as good and as addictive as it is I would have got fed up with dropping to windows and lag but EVE is addictive (At work looking over shoulder whilst typing)
:o)

It could be the GeForce 4. It's a pretty dated card and there have been some issues with it and Eve IIRC.
