My thought is that the tradition of the Mimitar tatoos my have started this way to begin with. And over time the tradition has become fashion with less meaning.
Mainly, ancient primitive cultures in the world place a high significance on tatoos or ritual scaring of the body. Usually, as a mark of man/womanhood. So it would not surprise me.

Originally by: Aldrith Shutaq Kinda makes us Amarr look like ****s, but oh well... I agree the artwork is great. Nothing like a cute little girl in a military uniform and carrying a gun!
I'm just imagining a scene with minmatar terrorists bursting into an amarr slave training camp, not knowing it's a kameira training facility and getting omgwtfganked by 14 year olds matari they sought to liberate.

Didn't like it as it didn't seem like a chronicle seemed like a piece of fan art from someone who has fully read the background. Whats with the immersionist red text? no chronicle has done that before. The artwork looked like a random piece from deviant art with a small amarr logo painted on as an after thought. The impression I got of Kameiras from the existing material was cybernetically enhanced warriors high on vitoc. Not three comly 14 year old girls. Also thre story hints at eugenics something the amaar abhorr, not long hair if the amarr hate long hair so much then why do some of the amarr avatars have it! DOH! Try get your writers to play the game first CCP.
Worst chronicle yet, Ive read them all this is the first time Ive felt the need to say something.

@Winters Chill
The long hair is a breech of military tradition not amarian religious tradition and is an example of one of the things that is "easily brushed aside by their officers". The thing that the Ammar "abhorr" is the cremation and scarring thing.
Also, there is a scene in Theodicy that suggests a limited form of eugenics is rather common in the empire when dealing with slaves (children not fit to work are killed), and since these soldiers are clearly not viewed as part of gods chosen either (lead by Ammarian officers) it is not unthinkable that a more rigid form of eugenics be allowed for military purposes.
The point of typical slave soldiers is as you point out to be fully expendable cannon fodder, but these soldiers are a slave special forces group that is meant to do dangerous and important tasks that require loyalty, without risking any of gods chosen.
Also, the statement "Try get your writers to play the game first CCP." doesn't make any sense with respect to the rest of your post seeing as all your grievances are based on your perception of the back story which most people who play the game wouldn't know well enough to see any discrepancies in.
@CCP Ginger
Good chron, although I don't really care for the red flavor text personally.

They have zero chance of becoming pod pilots. I'm surprised the Ni-Ku's have managed it to be honest.
Oh to clarify - Kameiras have no chance of becoming pod pilots because the authorities wouldn't allow it, not because they wouldn't be able to stand it.
It was one of the most interesting stories, but what people must remember is that although they're studying and training all the time, they still have "down time" - they still make friends and of course enemies.

From the Backstory the Ni-Kunni are about wealth and close family ties. Even in an Amarr-dominated society, this gives some of them enough power to become Pod-Pilots.

Edited by: Lusulpher on 13/12/2008 19:17:11 Where's this other "Kaimera" material, WinterChill? Why would you need Vitoc to control them, that does not work according to the chronicles. Brainwashing is better.
And the Amarr logo on the sashes is pure class! instead of showing the weapons, it uses subtlety to indicate you are already looking at the branded weaponry. Think before you type next time.
To other guy: The Amarr don't abhor scarring, they self-flagellate in the other chronicles...maybe it's that it's a Minmatar tradition that has slipped in, the whole "remembering the fallen". That can only lead to rebellion despite their training because it gives these cannon fodder a past to reflect upon.
Eugenics is always a major component of slavery, cattle don't selectively breed themselves to be buttermilk or steaks.
Someone said the picture was of 3 girls, really? The redhead looks like a half-Amarr boy. But using girls would make them more dangerous...for the obvious reasons.
And if you wanted to respec for these wouldn't they be Minmatar subcultures? Ammatar? Both?
To CCP: I don't think I will go planetside in Amarr space if they are the NPCs. I'll just bombard from space. I'm allergic to ninjas. And pain. Live and Let Die...All of it...null |

The art is great, as well as the storyline. Will they ever be actual characters? I think they should look like the children in the art all their life. You know, things that look innocent arent always so. Innocent but dangerous.

I believed it would be Jamyl Sarum to make good reforms in the regime but now i see it would be them. Once the grow up they will be like the "Janissary" in Ottoman empire. Nice chron, Ginger! I'll stop trashing any militants I find on Amarr ships, now that I know they're probably Matari.
Brainwashing: other arguments aside, it's probably better than Vitoc simply because it denies us Minmatar the opportunity to "repatriate" them mid-battle with some airborne or projectile antidote delivery system. They'd fight harder and more loyally if motivated by genuine belief in their cause.
Long hair: Even if it was "abhorrent" in the broader Amarr culture, why wouldn't CCP have long-haired avatars available to RP rebels and iconoclasts? Tat-free Minmatar are an option.
Sparta comparisons: I'd think the Amarr would have a problem with the use of homosexuality to build courage in Greek military units. Usually, it was the thought that lovers would fight more fiercely for each other. Spartans typically thought their leetness was good enough and used the bum love mostly to get the blood pumping. (Funny how that part never shows up in 300, Troy, etc.)

Yeah they are very similair to Ottoman Janissaries, even down to the part that the Agha (captain),of the Janissaries was always a turk, whearas most janissaries were croats or albanian. Wonder if the kameira are celebate too :p

Been away for a bit from these parts due to Abraxas's crappy style of writing, wich honestly, it's too convoluted and terrible at trying to portray itself as intelligent as it tries to deliver a message.
The fact that this writing made me open my eyes in amazement and reminded me of the old style of the chronicles (pre abraxas) is a sure sign that ccp is actually going in the right direction. I was doubly amazed at discovering a new writer (been away for a bit)
More CCP Fallout, less CCP Abraxas please.
I'm honestly fed up with short stories that portray the weird strange inner feelings of a teenager when choosing a pink or a red dress and the way their schoolmates will see her , Fat or too Skinny? ... Meanwhile convoluting the plot with the way the Little bird on the tree ****ed on the dress when she was going out and she ended up wearing the other color, cuz hey, she's just experiencing her own inner hell of pain and desolation cuz she just really wanted to stay inside doing her nails.
Again , excellent Story, good background info, keep it up, love the art too

And here, my friends, we witness a prime example of what happens to the intelligence level of a internet community once it grows out of its niche and becomes much too populated.

This is a little necro, but reading some random chronicles I came across this one and thought, how many of these super soldiers are over 9 generations? The chron makes it sound like the project is pretty old. Which means it is likely some of them are now "free". I wonder what those ones are up to now.

I think there was some discussion of this earlier, not sure if it was on this forum. We'd also need to take into account that they might not be freed for two possible reasons: First, even if they're pictured mostly to be of Minmatar descent, they might have other martial races mixed in or some other reasons why the Empire wouldn't classify them as Minmatar - they certainly don't think of themselves as Minmatar. Second, depending on how Amarr count the lineage (matrilinear, patrilinear, older lineage, younger lineage), there might be added "specimen" from recently-captured fitting prisoners of war to keep the generation count low.
But, considering the fact that these guys are the most conditioned part of the Matari ever - even thinking that they're actually Amarr themselves - the way they'd answer if someone would ask them if they'd want to move to the Republic or stay doing what they've trained to do for their whole lives the answer should be pretty clear.
Crazy idea: What if the recent Jarek "crusade" is a plot to send a few Kameira divisions into Matar (Minmatar homeworld in Pator)?

interesting idea, however i doubt the crusaders would have been so easily beaten up on by the rioters if this were the case.
