Hi all.
During downtime today, we are releasing an update to resolve the keyboard issues. This will be in the form of a optional cider patch. This patch will take you from 2027 to 2036. If you do not have 2027, you will not be asked to download this patch. I will post the links to the patches here so that you are able to download them manually:
Todays patch - Resolving Keyboard issues:
Revert patch for those that need it:
Please post in this thread if you are having any problems with the patch.

Excellent. Thank you Casqade.
Since I see you've already penciled in a revert patch spot, I may as well ask: have you guys been able to identify what's going haywire in the newer versions of Cider for some people that requires reverting? I think everyone here would like it if we didn't have to keep using split versions of Cider. ---- FREE Explorer Lead Megalomanic EVE Null-Sec Player Influence Map http://dl1.eve-files.com/media/corp/Veritefw/FWinf |

Exellent x2.
Well if the problem would have been identified and fixed I don't think there would be a need for a revert patch. Because this isn't in the earlier cider version that can only mean it's a fixable (or disable) issue. Stop whining. |

Well know what the issue is and being able to fix it are two different things. I'm curious as to what the problem is, but I'm not going to blame Transgaming (much) if they can't fix it, particularly if it comes down to drivers. ---- FREE Explorer Lead Megalomanic EVE Null-Sec Player Influence Map http://dl1.eve-files.com/media/corp/Veritefw/FWinf |

ATM with new patch I can't run the client. I'm always stuck with the debug's error message. Some advice?
P.S.: the revert patch's link doesn't work

Edited by: Overlord PinKy on 12/12/2008 18:35:06 Very glad they fixed the keyboard issue some were having. Still depressed that I am missing things happening in game at specific times due to the fact I have to run a patch then a fix to the same patch before I can start playing.
45 minutes last night patching multiple clients for multiple characters then running the revert patch on each, then opening info Plist to change preferences folder links so I don't have to set up overview/bookmark settings all over again.
Now I get to do it all over again tonight and will again miss things planned in game.
Thank you casquade again for staying on top of the revert patch for the iMac 24in. But ccp is no doubt losing new customers by having an application that does not work when downloaded from it's website. I mean how many people are going to spend the extra time on getting a game to work unless they already really like/know the game?

fresh download of client and patching does not resolve KB issues.Downloading of Patch for reverting does not work the patch simply hangs. I'm afraid that I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that CCp has no commitment to Mac users who pay the same as PC users and are perpetually being treated like second class citizens of EVE
And since gaming for me is almost impossible with this situation I can see no option but to leave the gameand by the way whoever was the player telling Mac guys to stop complaining, ***** off! I pay to play and I was offered the game on my Mac and I expect the company who supplies the goods and takes the money to turn out the product and CCP is not honoring their agreement with me as a customer, days and days of gameplay lost through the fact that their product does not work with a Keyboard, something I would have thought would rank as high importance to resolve

Agreed. A fresh client install (I installed a new disk in my macbook pro yesterday) and then patching it results in the icon briefly flashing in the dock before disappearing. The client wont' launch at all.

Do you patch all of your clients individually? How about patch one, copy it, then change the prefs folder on the copies :)

Actually last night I let eve auto update the first client. Then I ran the revert patch on the first client. It worked so I fixed the preferences etc for that client/toon then moved on to the second client.
That client crashed while trying to auto update. I tried it again and it crashed again. So I trashed all my eve clients I had on my hd (except the one that worked) and started duplicating the first one that had patched correctly. After I duplicated each I went into the info plist and changed the preferences folder name for each. In the end that's what worked for me. Good luck

Why do we even NEED Cider??.... seems like there's a NATIVE MAC CLIENT for another popular game (WoW - remember that one?)... why can't CCP support the Mac owners in the same manner, providing a client that is functionally identical but runs cleanly and harmoniously on a Mac, instead of using a software emulator that forces the Mac to do double the work needed to actually run the client?

Because WoW uses OpenGL (mac and windows), and EVE uses DirectX (proprietary microsoft, windows only).
Why not switch to OpenGL?
Because it require reprogramming the game graphics from the ground up.

Edited by: jinkoti boslin2 on 12/12/2008 23:03:24 ok, well the keyboard issue seems to be fixed.. good stuff. Now i get problems whilst in fleet.. Bad stuff :(
Specifically.. the client just stops responding.. stuck in space.. i can type in the chat box.. but no one seems to see the text, and i cant warp anywhere or even move.
I was running Team Speak whilst this happened, so im not sure if that would have any effect on things.. but i have missed out on TWO decent fleet fights because of this. Gutted.
Anyone else having similar issues?
P.s. still don't see client logo in the dock on desktop.. minor annoyance, but still P*sses me off

jinkoti boslin2 describes an on-going hang (semi-hang) problem I continue to have. That is, the client becomes unresponsive but does not crash, at least not immediately. As he said, the chat window appears to work, but doesn't, really. Additionally, client reboots virtually always recrash within seconds, requiring a computer reboot before I can continue. These things are quite daunting for me as I am a brand-new MAC user (iMAC 24"), after decades of MicroSoft atrocities like VISTA, and I'm trying to learn a whole new operating system. At least the utterly maddening keyboard lag seems cured on my end. I thought it was just me - possibly early onset Alzheimers!
CCP - THANKS for your diligence and for this unbelievably addicting and enjoyable pastime called EVE. Please remember us MAC folks. I read some fine ideas and comments here; hope you might consider some of them, including a native client. Why not?
Cordially,
NN

There seems to be a typo in the news item... The latest Cider patch (AFAICT) is 2036, not 2037.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, and if not, please correct the news item

CCP Casqade - First just let me type, Amazing!
I honestly had given up on the EVE client for Mac getting back to the relative stability of it's pre-Empyrean Age state. I didn't think there would be high frame rates, lack of crashes, high responsiveness, multiple client ability any longer.
FWIW, I was able to patch easily, haven't had to revert as in the past and can easily run 2 clients again. It's like a time warp back to April [but with improved Orca-squishy goodness]. Also fixed seems to be the issues I was having with disconnects, so Bonus. This patch seems to have come closest to hitting the mark!

Well, I thought the keyboard issue was fixed (I stopped having the non-responsive keys since the Cider patch yesterday) but.....The mouse cursor disappeared 3 times within 15 minutes, leaving me with no ship control, logging in space was my only option- was able to dock in station before downtime. This game is becoming increasingly unplayable on a Mac

Hi,
Thanks for fixing the keyboard issue. The client wouldn't download the patch when I launched it but quitting and launching again resolved this. So it worked fine in the end but strange, anyway.
I also had the "mouse pointer disappearing" issue 2 or 3 times (and couldn't find a workaround to make it come back so quit/relog seems the only option) but it was before the Cider patch so I will check if it still occurs.
Anyway, the Mac client needs *a lot more* love. CCP, do everything you can to force TransGaming in improving Cider a lot faster. I haven't seen much improvement in the last 9 months (except fixing things that had been broken by previous patch).
Still, thanks for the support.

My client developped some serious latency issues (worse than usual I should say) after updating to the new Cider patch. I would have tremendous lag times when attempting to open the character sheet, and the keyboard issues morphed - I could type in a message just fine, but when I went to go press enter, it would not recognize that I had pressed enter, but would act as if I had pressed shift+enter instead, moving the cursor down to the next line.
I reinstalled my client from the download that I orginially installed off of, and patched right up to before the new patch - and most of these issues seem to have cleared up.
Machine specification: Macbook 3.1 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 1 GB of RAM Intel GMA X3100 144 MB.
And before writing off my system specifications, do note that the client was working functionally until I attempted to update Cider.
