Edited by: Yakia TovilToba on 13/12/2008 03:50:52 I personally believe the "Next Eve Scandal" is nothing else than a faked drama bomb with the purpose to make Eve look "dark" and dirty and get some attention from the Mmo-media. If there really was some large-scale cheating, the devs would have banned the exploiters and not make such a big story of it, informing everyone and his dog.

Or, they would've informed everyone because the exploit in question had such a wide-ranging impact on the game.
Furthermore, feel free to ignore the people who have stepped forward and admitted to abusing this scam on several third-party websites, those are clearly CCP coverups and proof of a conspiracy to deceive us all.

That would be a very interesting twist. Sadly I fear we will never know what really happened.

Timeline: Anonymous guy makes a poast about how he exploited eve for years with ccp approval. Hours later Wrangler makes a statement to the effect that some major exploiting had occured and many characters were banned. A bit later than that a follow up is made to the original official thread with some info about the events and punishments. Just a little bit later a front page new story with a distinct pr slant to the wording. Transperancy at work or subtle pr stunt? YOU Decide.

Because it's so credible when people jump in and say "yes it was me, i was the cheater" and because it's so hard to make alts on third pary websites ? Probably devs are now drinking some beer and laughting their ass off how people are falling for this little pr campaign.

I would hazard a guess that it all really did happen and ccp are just putting the best spin on it as possible. I mean its not like they don't cater to the personality type who would have no issues with this level of exploitation after all so go figure about some ****ed off banned player accusations on a third party eve web site.

Something like this if it spins out of control could potentially ruin the game and cause players to leave in mass. I saw it in SWG when the Jedi stuff came out and it was lame. A little bad PR after that a boom mass exit. Obviously there are some differences but your smoking crack if you think CCP did this themselves as a stunt. I strongly suspect they are running around like chickens with their heads cut off trying to figure out how to stop the bleeding.
Its a lose lose for them. No matter what the truth is it hurts them. They are ether incompetent, or in collusion with the exploiters. At least in the minds of the players. The sad reality is they are just not perfect.
Also your point isn't valid. The only reason the devs posted a notice of the exploiting was because one of the banned people posted on a 3rd party site and after a few hours posts started poping up here. I think they wanted to quietly cover it up. Not because they feel at fault etc, but because they know something this big would make the in game markets go crazy. Which they did.
I'm perfectly willing to give them a few days to think it over but at some point they have no choice but to give the players what they want. The names numbers and all the info about the scale of the exploiting. Anything short of that and they run a very real risk of this game being labeled as having devs that screw over players in game.
IE - the accusations that GM's helped the exploiters. Which btw is complete crap. If anything its 1-2 people acting without the knowledge of the company. Which is exactly why their needs to be transparency etc. If a GM REALLY did ignore this and or tell his friends he should be fired for sure and probably charge with some sort of crime IRL if he/she personally benefited from this.
