no, that makes the DPS on projectiles too good. . .they are supposed to have the lowest dps. But yah, artillery needs a little buff. . .but not much - they are actually verry strong still. . .they just can't compete with the guns from other races in fleet action.
i didnt say i felt they should get a massive boost in falloff damage, but giving them a bit more then what they have no wouldnt be bad

Lag isn't an issue for balancing though.
Its not just lag, missioning is affected + dps is affected (you dont hurt when ur reloading ) and dont forget overall viability is also affected. This is because with a low clip size, less ammo can be stored in the weapon and more must be taken in the hold, which would be a real pain in the arse for roaming around.. EVE history

Quite right, no one has actually made a convincing case for anything being wrong, in fact most in this thread seem to think all damage types and capless weapons seem to be a problem !
Think the missing mid slots on the golden fleet of Amarr should be looked for before the too many damage types and no cap use problem of arty get's balanced
this thread is about boosting projectiles to make them better and ideas for ways to do this based on the assumption there is something wrong with them which is what many people think. Not about why they need a boost, I'd reccommend creating another thread for that. I'd like to avoid a massive derail, and if you do create a thread for that pls post in here a link and I'll come and argue.

If you do this an abbaddon/rokh/apoc/hyperion can fit a full rack of arties and do the same alpha as a maelstrom, mael would still be better due to much larger dps it wouldn't make alpha a truely minmatar thing also pest still wouldn't have it's place since all above bs's and mael out alpha it.
I'd rather see pest (and other duel dmg bonused projectile ships) get 20% bonus to dmg per level and 5% penelty to rof per level. It would make them true alpha ships for 4% dmg reduction for their close range setups.

Sorry but still no one has really got in any detail on what is wrong with arty. I'm wasn't derailing or was not any intention to, but all races have pro's and con's and all of the earlier poster icl the op have pointed out to the plus side as all damage types and capless with not really explaining to us non arty users the problems with them.
Still the only thing i see really pointed at is the lack of alpha on a pest in comparason to other bs's which is a fair comment perhaps but if that is the main gripe then it's the ship and not the weapon system which is the main problem.
Also a mention of slow reload time making swapping damage types a problem, fair comment to be sure but least you got damage types to swap to.
But give arty bigger clip size esp on the smaller guns, bigger magazines make sense, maybe a slightly higher rate to boost dps

Being able to switch damage types is a very minor advantage (if its an advantage at all) in situations where arties are most used; fleet battles. With multiple battleships firing at a single target, by the time you've switched ammo most subcap targets will already be down. Unless you're fighting a fleet where most people have the same resistance weakness, its not a terribly big advantage.
Halving RoF and doubling damage per shot is one of the few really good suggestions I've heard for fixing arties as it solves most of the problems without introduction of any new mechanics, skills or ship bonuses. It gives arties a role not claimed by any other weapon system and it helps reduce the DPS lost due to reloading (since each clip will last twice as long).
