Hi,
I keep getting asked by friends and corp mates what type of ore is the best to mine.
well this obviously depends on if you are trying to get minerals to build or make isk.
if you are trying to make isk i have put together a little guide that i am going to be keeping updated for everyone who may be interested.
Remeber it takes longer to mine a can of mercoxit than it does any of the others.
Prices are based on perfect refine with 0% tax with market averages.

Actually it doesn't. Sound financial planning dictates that you mine the most valuable ore you can, and if you need minerals not found in it, you sell what you mine (after refining of course) and then buy what ever it is you need. (small exception if the ores are within 1-2% due to broker fees/taxes, mileage may vary if your market has a shortage of something)
Example, I can mine veldspar or omber... I need isogen, and have plenty of trit... I can mine 2M isk worth of omber, or in the same time mine 3M worth of Trit, sell it, buy 2M worth of omber/isogen, and make off with 1M profit. Why would you mine the omber?

Gives a sense of direction, but doesn't much help those with varying skills on tax and refining installations and skills.

Depends on the logistics of it really.
If I'm already in the belt and I've already mined out all the veld, it may be easier to just go ahead and snag the omber than it is to switch belts, mine more veld, then haul the refined product off to market and do the transactions. This is especially true if you're mining much closer to your build site than you are to the bulk of market activity.
Like with most things, your bottleneck will dictate the best course. Short on time and long on ISK? You might want to go ahead and grab the omber. Short on ISK and long on time? Sure, sell trit and buy isogen. Of course this says nothing of the fact that veldspar can make your max cargo capacity a real issue if hauling is involved...

The best way to calculate what is best to mine is buy calculating the ISK you get per every m3 of ore. What I usually do. This I guess is kinda the same... but easier to compare with ISK/m3 and easier to calc your ISK/hr

If I'm producing, I never mine my ore. Instead I just buy mins, produce product, sell at a profit, and I'm done. It's way too much effort to mine your own minerals. I can be out doing missions and making way more ISK with that time than mining...which I use to buy minerals.
So in a sense, you can mission and get more minerals out of it than if you were mining, although you can't really do it as 'AFK' as you can using mining lasers, but just about.
Like if I mine in my Rokh (not the best mining ship) I can make about 4.8m/hr mining Veld. OR I can mission in my Rokh for an hour, make about 10-15mil, and use that to buy 10-15mil worth of Veld (Trit). So I doubled or tripled my mining yield. Nice huh? >D

By some school of thoughts ore you mine yourself MIGHT be looked at as "free" (but again so is all ISK ingame by that same school of thought)...
...but that doesn't make it WORTH less than you could get for it (or its refined minerals).

Depending on the range of the player they may have to mine whatever ore is available. In high sec there hasn't been a load of variety lately unless you get up at 0:dark30 and mine imediatedly after DT. It's good to see the break down.

did anyone notice that, while ore mining, if the asteroid depletes before the mining laser's circulation time, no mines is adding to cargo. All that mining progress is getting lost...
anynone noticed?

That's why some of us use this handy thing called a survey scanner to optimize our m3/hour.

are you sure that, this is not a bug.
because, before the upgrade of the game, even if the asteroid depleted before the circulation of the mining laser ends, the amount of the mining were adding to cargo automaticly...
but now,if the asteroid gets depleted before the circle time ends, (even 1 second left to end the circle), all collected mines in that laser is going away forever.
weird...

don't put more than one laser on a single asteroid.

No true. I mined last night semi-afk and had no problems with ore. If this has happened to you, I would petition it as it sounds like a bug possibly affecting you only.

Simply put, if your not in 0.0, then mine Veldspar.
often people talk about low sec mining, why bother with the additional logistics, risk and time to go to low sec when you can sit in high sec feasting one of many overly plump veldoroids for hours without risk at greater profit?

That's why some of us use this handy thing called a survey scanner to optimize our m3/hour.
The ore remaining in your laser when the roid deplets will dump into your cargo hold. If it is not doing that, then deffinitely report it. Keep in mind that if there is a very small amount of ore, like 10 or even 100 units, you may not notice it when it dumps. The displayed amount under the ore icon in the cargo hold is in the k's; so you may not notice small amounts as they are dumped.

I have 100% refine and pay 0% tax and refine for them. I like to make things easy for my guys because they can sometimes be a little slow.
