So, a while ago I upgraded my Raven to a Golem for teh uber mission running, but I'm beginning to wonder if I'll regret it since I eventually want to move out to lowsec for a better agent selection, and taking a Golem into lowsec seems like a hilariously bad idea. So I'm curious if anyone here has had experience with this, and/or could give a decent comparison of the risk/return ratios for using a Golem versus something safer like a Nighthawk or Dominix.
In case anyone's wondering, I'm definitely going to run missions in a cheaper ship first whenever I do get out to lowsec, regardless of what the consensus here is (be it a legitimate consensus or pirate propaganda  ). I'm just curious what people think about the issue, and what suggestions they might have to make going lowsec in a Golem less risky.

choose youre low sec system very carefully..
try and get a agent hub so you can pick missions in system and keep an eye on scanner.

And remember, that even I, lowly carebear, never a pirate, will shout on vent for my buddies and grab my covops prober if I'll scan a golem doing missions in a lowsec I'm in.
And I'm not evil. It's just a tasty, tasty piece of hardware, which looks sooooo good exploding. Beautiful. Piece of High Art. You can't turn down such gifts.
I most certainly can't.
And it will be all your fault anyway.

Run LowSuck missions in an insured Raven t2 fit unless you have backup/corpies nearby.
If people find out there's a Golem missioning aroud the area they will come from everywhere to try for you.

I have done 1 mission in low sec in my golem... it was a dead end system.
I was probed out and an interceptor and battleship jumped in on my... luckily my tank is insane and they did not have any neuts fitted (? why no neuts? really bad pirates). anyways my hobo II's and my torps nearly killed the interceptor he warped off (i sware i poped him but he most have gotten out with 1% structure or something). Then i warped off the battleship was doing barely any damage to me i think it was a tempest.
Anways long story short, 1 mission in low sec 1 probe out. wont ever do it again its a big risk especially when i think how lucky i was that the pirates were really bad. (even had full room agro on me).
So gona have to say its not worth it, might be worth it to run 0.1 missions in an insured raven... if you are good at converting loyalty points but i am not have no idea how to get good isk with them.

My alt runs missions in low sec. I'm also a "pirate", and so is she. I feel completely safe for two reasons. 1) I know when I'm being probed out. Pirating has taught me to constantly check my scanner and all around to be very paranoid. and 2) I have support close by, I pirate and mission at our base of operations. This means if I get in trouble, I've got a small remote repping blob to back me up. But most importantly: that blob comes with a network of scouts in all directions.
If you don't have both 1 and 2, don't do it. Even if the locals can't catch you they will prevent you from running missions. If you do have 1 and 2 you're pretty damn safe missioning in a marauder.

Yeah, I'm def. not ready for that. I've barely used scanners at all, and I'm really not too into the whole constantly watching my back mentality. I think I'd rather just fly some annoyingly-tanked ship with an ECM or two to be on the safe side.

Low sec pirates will typically drop what they are doing and immediately begin hunting any missioning BS, CS or Maruader upon spotting it on their scanner. I am currently a low sec pirate and on rare occasion, an absolution or golem will wander into the system to run the occasional mission. If there is a prober online in the alliance, we will go after them neglecting basically every other kill oppertunity.
The reason is because t2 BC's and BS's fetch very nice ransoms. Most of our kills are 2 week old charicters running around in t1 trash fitted cruisers. Killing those nets us maybe 500k isk at best; so the chance at a 500M isk ransom isn't something we like to pass up. Ditto for lone capitals without support. They get ganked in a heartbeat if we have enough people online to do it.
We don't like to actually have to kill these ships as the loot is almost always less valuable than a ransom. That's true on virtually all ships but on t2 ships it's particularly significant since they can't really be insured and thus we can demand a much higher ransom.

I was using a golem to rat in 0.0; but I was under the protection of TCF (what ever the french alliance is) and goons.
I wouldn't go out and do that in low sec as I don't know of any low sec systems that are locked down.

ROFL I SAW THIS TOPIC AND DIED LAUGHING!!!
Firstly I would have you know I'm a pirate, my sec status has been at -10 multiple times. I will shoot anything that comes into system even if it's a shuttle. A golem is just like getting caviar for dinner. Extremely tasty and satisfying especially when you get about 1-2/week all faction and officer fitted (makes for a nice payout). Lots of golem's and their gangs love to do cosmo missions in Otitoh which is 0.5 and safe, but when they get the odd one in a nearby 0.4 system guarunteed we will be there. Just make sure you scout, and don't fail scout. We've seen a fleet of golems (literally 6+) sit on our gate waiting to get in to finish a mission. They sent scouts in and out for 30min then jumped. We had motherships, carriers, and bs's on them in an instant. (FAIL SCOUTING)
