Originally by: Miyamoto Uroki Ah, good ol times. I very much prefer the old UI style, still. It had a silverish look, and a cold metal feel. And space actually wasnt that cluttered, but that might just because of the much higher player count these days.
I remember setting the destination for as far as I could go, and turning on auto pilot. And making it out into 0.0 without seeing another player. Was kinda cool.

Actually I LOVE the colours in the chatbox! That is something they should plan bringing back! The whole AI colour is fantastic!

The dominix was definately a female ship, complete with naughty bits that got modified later on.
You could stack micro-warpdrives and overdrive units to travel at thousands of kps.
Projectile weapons worked!
In the early days, before battleships, the Thorax was the best mining ship in the game.
And I remember the time BSC were the first corp to mine out an asteroid belt, quite a feat with a large fleet of frigates and T1 mining lasers.
*sigh* the good old days...

Once upon a time it was possible to use certain combinations of modules to take specific ships (notably the Dominix) down to zero mass.
For those who failed Elementary Science, the zero mass concept goes hand in hand with the reason perpetual motion doesn't work.
You could essentially accelerate forever and instantly, albiet, with very little directional control, and god help you if you ever wanted to stop. I recall my Dominix going about 10,000 AU/sec before EVE crashed. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- PROPOSAL: Chaos Incarnate's Face MMORPG: Many Men Online Role Playing Girls |

Originally by: Chi Quan and Cyvok was also the first to loose his titan. it was a clever tactic that used the aggression timer. a spy was in ASCN with access to their comm channels, he had Cyvok locked and when he logged out, the spy shot a missile at him. those few hitpoints were the doom of Cyvoks titan: the aggression timer kicked in and the titan did not disappear properly. Red Alliance (iirc) blobed the unpiloted titan and took it down (mostly with bs).
It was BoB not RA. Also they had plenty of caps on the kill

I think Cyvok caused his own aggression timer. The spy action you describe was used to kill a D2 titan as far as I remember. Hence the Goons claim the first "real" titan kill (the third but the first in combat) when they killed Shrike in his Avatar.

Oh wow.
I remember that 3D scanner thing, it was pretty neat, wonder why they removed it?
Back then the cheapest rat was 100 isk and characters started with erm, what 80K skill points? Of course there were fewer skills to go around back then, but still it was hard work getting a battle-ship and a real grind replacing any lost ship due to the fact you had to warp to gates at 15km wether you were on auto pilot or not.
I'm glad they put in the warp to zero though as it meant the bookmarks could be deleted and purged out of the system. If you haven't done that yet, please do as they are not stored on your local computer but on the server somewhere.
The good old days. But hey these days are good now as well. We've got pos's and it's easier to make isk to replace pvp loses or get more stuff to make more isk with etc. Above all the advances though what makes the game still great is the people willing and able to lend a hand to new players or even struggling non-new players and the team work it can lead to.

It seems it's not just me that suddenly goes all misty eyed when people mention how EvE used to be back in the olden days.
Things that we had back then or didn't have that I miss?
No local channel. Missiles following a flight path Missile Splash Damage Minefields - and not the effing ghey lagtastic efforts that the metagaming pillocks used (which led to the removal of mines from game) but the actual ha ha we just laid a minefield at the gates to Amarr and then spent 10 minutes running from concord in Breachers through 8 systems :) :) There were tons of visual effects that got removed from the game under the guise of "optimisation". Effectively whenever the word optimisation got used by CCP it meant they'd removed something from game. Logging on when you had 2000 people online was just such a different atmosphere to today's 40,000. Space back then seemed much bigger and colder and harsher. I still miss the days before people used insta-bookmarks for everything and you had a good reason to fit an mwd i.e. to approach gates instead of just to go ludicrous speed to run from fights :) Empire based Asteroid Belts actually had asteroids in them and what's more with no local channel to blab of your presence people used to mine in low sec and yes it made it fun catching them as much as it did having corp mining ops to try and get us all into cruisers.
As I approach my 80 millionth skill point I can happily look back and be one of the few people to say I was there at the start. I loved eve then and i still do today.

That REALLY makes me want that scanner thing back. It looks awesome . In fact, the fonts look really nifty as well. Why on earth did they drop those?

True but Goons always did claim all of RA's success so...

i still remember the ol days not this char mind you but my first account.
i remember being wardecced and my corp mate flying an alt in a shuttle following the enemy to get intel " dude he has a battle ship in jita he just undocked it , it's a moa!"
i mined my first bs in a bellicose single account jet can action . that was tough .
i got a second account and wuld leave a mammoth and badger in 1.0's while i was out mining veld to make extra cash afk.
so much great stories to remeber but eve was sweet in th old days . the funny thing is if you ever go around collecting all your old stuff you sometimes find treasures you never see any more like mines .

They should bring it back, but with the added option of "wing commander" taunting over a radio "discussion".
Would be fun to call angels "winged fairies" etc.
Heck, could even use it as a new strategic tool, where taunting would 'cause more damage from rats but would lower their defence etc.
This would be "rp wise" logical as they pilot their own ships instead of pod flying them, so they could "rage" basically(if i remember correctly).
My opinions represent the opinions of my corporation completely. I'm the CEO damnit. |

Well if you liked that I have some really old Pew Pew ones, here is one of me being a Gal Pilot in a Vigil with pew pew lasers.
Link for those who cant see it ; Image of OLD EVE - Gemini Release
And to recap, I played as Ariell Lucinwind in Endless Corp during Beta and then then into release in the Gemini build (I still own the box/ CD) and to me it was ok. I was sorrly disappointed that repair drones and support / logistic equipment was not in, hence I packed up and left. I came back later when a friend told me of the changes, alas couldnt remember the password to the old accoutn and thus made a new account.
So as the others have said, EVE was very open / sparce and plan back then. And bookmarks were your friend to get around zippity split.
Cheers
