known commands that actualy do do stuff in chat:
ctrl+b for bold
ctrl+i for italics
ctrl+u for underline
there is a way to do coloured text to which someone was mucking around with in militia a few months back but wouldnt tell anyone about.

This brings to mind a funny story. Names will be changed to protect the clueless.
We were goofing around in corp chat a couple years back trying to figure out some of the undocumented key combinations like ctrl-alt-shift-m, ctrl-f9, ctrl-e, ctrl-t, ctrl-f, etc. etc. when someone says "Don't hit CTRL-Q!"
Well, a certain individual we all (in my old corp) know and love, lets call him "Larry", decides to try it out. He dropped from chat and a few seconds later popped back in. Then he dropped from chat again. Then he reappeared. Then dropped. Then reappeared. Then dropped. Then reappeared. This went on for a few minutes.
Finally "Larry" reappears for the last time and started complaining about his computer being a piece of junk because every time he pressed CTRL-Q his client would crash.
Needless to say the rest of us laughed until we were all teary eyed and in need of a bathroom break.

Not surprised he kept that quiet if he actually managed it.
I remember a while back it was mentioned that posting in chat in a certain color (blue I think) was considered an exploit because it was reserved for GM's. I know that Star and the GM's had their own seperate colors and I think Devs also had a specific color too. IIRC, the ability to chat in color was removed after that so it may show in color on your client but everyone else would just see a normal white.

LOL! I did that once while trying to /me something kinda stupid (and over-the-top silly) and hit the wrong slash. At first I thought it was a GM repeating back what I'd just said... which was even wierder

Unfortunately, this always gave the same error message:
Unable to camp! Insufficient marshmallows!
I believe no one ever acquired the sufficient amount of marshmallows to camp. Kudos to who gets the name of the game

They fixed it a few patches back so might as well tell the secret of teh blue text.
Just type / then Ctrl-B type 'emote' so:
/emote
The invisible bold tag would break the emote tag and it would appear in the channel without a name or timestamp and be the blue colour.
Much epicness was had.
