Ok, am I the only person who thinks the starbase exploit was put in on purpose?
There are actually two exploits and they seem (IMHO) to be designed to work together and be easy to hid.
Why? to get this exploit to work you needed to have a starbase setup in a specific & broken way. If you managed to find the "secret" setup for starbase you would be rewarded with more materials than should be possible from a single day of reactions.
So the two exploits are: -- "Secret" setup where a starbase can make items from nothing -- Get more products than should be allowed
I can see one of these two things happening in a broken system, but not both happening.
This type of setup would not normally every be checked in the process of normal QA. However, it should have been found by a simple audit asking what starbases are producing above their max possible under the expected design.
I wonder what else in Eve is doing producing more than the system expects.

No, I don't believe you're the only one. But you're certainly the only one cool enough to make your own thread about it. So far.
Vote for Karille next CSM cycle. Forum players need a voice too. |

Dude, is your main's name Bodark??? I didn't have to see your corp to think of that fool but I know hes in or has been associated with you guys from the Dysa area.
The last time I saw him he was using 3 accounts with a maurader, hic and command ship to take on my 7mil isk, t1 fitted thorax. For 3 systems he was screaming insane nonsense about me pirating him before. I think he was having flashbacks.
So is it you bodark?

How much is that in centimeters anyway ? I always get confused by the whole "shoe size" debacle. So... umm... what size is a 28 cm long sole

There's other Easter Eggs out there as well you know!
Like the one where you auto pilot yourself into rancer and walk away from your computer for a couple of hours.
You'll magically reappear in your medical clone minus the medical insurance.
Try it, it really works!

Dude. the amount of damage done to Eve from this "ahem" Easter Egg is still not known, but it was significant.
I doubt very VERY much that CCP would have let something like that happen intentionally. An Easter Egg is usually something "neat, visual, usefull" that does not affect the ENTIRE PLAYERBASE...

most easter eggs don't get you perma-banned
the only tin-foil on this that i am willing to entertain is that ccp knew of this earlier than they let on but just held off doing anything til achelmey could be moved along.
best not to dwell on this stuff though, i hear thinking causes cancer in lab animals.

Yup, I am a crazy old due.
I know I called it an "easter egg", the other name this could be called is a "Backdoor".
Either way my point is that this was put in by a dev.
Seriously, do you think that it's an accident that a specially setup in a broken manner can yeild more resources than a working one should do in one day?
And if it is an honest coding error, well what does that say about the rest of the system?
And no, I am not somebody's alt. And no, I didn't ask anybody to share my opinion and if you disagree with it then fine, just be constructive in your disagreement.
btw, anybody see an old silver delorian laying around? I forgot where I parked it.

Maybe, I'm not paranoid enough, but from this thread I gather that the Easter Bunny has a POS network that goes through people's backdoor? Do I have that right? ****, I gotta hide. --

Divide by zero, overflow, improper casting... hell any number of things could cause this exact same problem. Debugging software requires, by definition, a set of "very specific" conditions.
That is, unless you think things like lockups were intentionally put in by programmers to annoy you

Is there an explanation of how it used to work? I'm just curious and afaik an exploit can be explained after it has been fixed.

Of course it was put in by a dev. Who else is writing the code?!
The question you mean is: was that exploit put in on purpose or was it an accidently bug?
But how do you want to prove that? Is there any way to prove malicious intentions? I don't think you can prove that if the coder was not too blunt and obvious. He could always make it look like a bug.
But if there is no way to prove things, it is futile to talk about it, sadly.

a.) Any POS was capable of doing it, but certain configurations were more efficient. b.) They weren't physically making more Ferrogel/whatever than was possible, they were doing it without inputting the starter materials.
You should probably learn about the exploit in question before making these types of threads, just sayin'.
